a new sXe site is started to online in early 2003. what's so special about this website? beside cause its cool layout and contents, apparently one man behind this great site is no other than Porcell [Youth Of Today, Judge, Project-X, Shelter....now in Never Surrender], one person who really close with sXe movement. cause im really curious with the idea behind this site, im encourage myself to email him to make an appointment to interview him. and he answered two days afterward said that he would be happy to answer my questions. so heres the list of those questions and answers.
TRUETILLDEATH.COM
hello there…..hows your going. First of all…congratulations for your newborn baby. Hows your feeling about it?
I couldn't be more excited, it's so great to be a dad again and my new daughter is the love of my life.
Ok…first question. I must said to you that truetilldeath.com is one of the best sXe site I’ve ever know. Whats the idea of making this site? Why a sxe site? And why truetilldeath?
Well the idea started because kids would come over to my house and look at all my old pictures and they'd always say "you've got to put these on the iternet for everyone to see." Then it just sort of snowballed into what it is now. I really wanted to have a place on the internet where people could learn about straight edge from the beginning.
I know that you are very busy with bands that you have, taking care of your label and of course be a part as a father and husband in your family. Do you still have full time to maintain this site?
No, not really, which is unfortunately why it isn't updated so often. Some kids have come forward to help with it though, so hopefully that will change.
I thought those mp3s that you put on truetilldeath.com are an amazing compilation. Great bands with great history. I downloaded all of ‘em to make a bootleg and label it TRUETILLDEATH COMPILATION….hehehe…dont worry, I keep this as a private property. Did ever cross to your mind to release all those song as a compilation for your label? I think that would be a great compilation.
No, I'm too busy putting out other records at the moment, if kids want to hear more of those songs I think they'll go out and buy the cd's or look into the bands more.
I am waiting with anxious what will comes up next on truetilldeath.com. those YOT, GB and Straight Ahead videos are already a great stuff since I never saw any of them. Is there any other big plans what other stuff you’ll put on truetilldeath.com?
More videos and other updates. I'm also working on a lot more interviews and a "where are they now?" section.
Me personally think truetilldeath.com really help me specially with hows the history of straight edge hardcore bands. Is this one of your first intention of making this site?
Yes, I wanted to capture where straight edge came from and where it's going. It's been such an important part of my life that I just wanted to document it somehow.
What’s your future plans with truetilldeath.com?
Keep it going as a place where
edge kids can be part of an online community and learn about what's going on
worldwide with straight edge.
Browsing truetilldeath.com is like having a short journey back to where sXe hardcore begins. What do you think this days hardcore and sXe movement compare to back to the day when you first start to know it?
It's the same, there will always be kids in the scene looking for an alternative to the "live fast, die young" mentality.
Hardcore meant to be a threat when it first started and it still supposed to be so. But it seems lots of kids are into hardcore right now more about its music and fashion. Do you feel the same way about it?
Kids are kids, and the more they get into the scene, the more they'll grow in awareness. Everyone starts out a poser, so I tend to be patient with people.
I’ve been hearing a lot of people in the scene say that fuck word to technology including the internet? How about your own opinion?
Nothing is inherently good or bad, it's how you use it that makes it so.
On this issue I also talk about hows if hardcore someday be mainstream. I mean right now lots of hardcore band gone major label. Lots of clips are rollin on MTV and so on. Do you think it’s possible if someday hardcore be mainstream? And what do you think if it’s true happen?
Yes, I do think that hardcore will break out of the underground one of these days, for better or worse. When I was young, punk was basically unheard of, but now with bands like Blink 182 and Green Day it's huge. We'll wait and see.
This question goes to you as a Porcell. Whats your busyness right now? Are you doin some new project or somethin?
I'm really putting a lot of time and effort into Fight Fire with Fire Records. We have a new release coming out Jan. 27th, a band from Sweden called The Change and I'm really psyched about it.
Good luck with all of your work. It’s really good to have people who active and doin lots of things for hardcore. Thanx for doin this interview. Any last message?
Never surrender, never give in.
