Lou and Innosense
Maker of Boy-Bands Faces Departures
By MIKE SCHNEIDER, AP Business Writer

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - When it comes to riding the boy-band wave in pop music, nobody has done it better than Lou Pearlman.
The Backstreet Boys, 'N Sync and O-Town are just a few of the groups the Orlando-based impresario and his company, Trans Continental Entertainment, have launched on the road to hormone-fueled success.
But in the past few months, Pearlman has hit some sour notes.
About 15 key executives and staffers, including company vice presidents, the chief operating officer, a tour manager, accountants and publicists, have left or been laid off.
O-Town, Pearlman's latest breakout success, recently left for a management firm run by former Trans Continental executives, although Pearlman will still earn money from them under a production agreement.
Trans Continental also had trouble finding a distributor for a movie it made for $15 million and shopped around Hollywood.
Only one artist now managed by Trans Continental, 16-year-old Richard Lugo, has a U.S. record label, although Pearlman recently took under his wing B4-4, which has a label in Canada.
Two of the acts Pearlman developed - the girl group Innosense and the boy group Take 5 - recently tried to get out of their contracts. Take 5, which has lost its lead singer, succeeded, and Innosense's release is being negotiated. Innosense manager Dennis Steinmetz said he didn't feel Trans Continental was behind the act anymore.

Music industry watchers and former employees aren't about to write Pearlman off, however, saying he may just be on a downward slope in a business that has regular peaks and valleys.
``From what it seems to the public eye, they may have reached a low, but I think it's premature to say that they're through or the company is going downhill,'' said Jil Shingledecker, a former Trans Continental marketing and public relations coordinator, who was laid off in October. Pearlman has dismissed any problems, characterizing the layoffs as people leaving whose projects were finished. He said the executives who departed did so on amicable terms and just wanted to branch out on their own.
As for the artists who have left, Pearlman said it was part of a strategy to separate his management and production operations.
``You can't be both, to avoid any conflict of interest,'' Pearlman said. ``It's a matter of us amicably dividing church and state where management and production have to be separated.''
He added, ``We're making more money this year than we did last year.''
Trans Continental has recently tried to transform itself from a management and production company to a full-service record company, said Scott Bennett, vice president of Trans Continental Records. The company is putting particular focus on a new act, Natural, which is touring with the Monkees.
Natural was the subject of a lawsuit earlier this year filed by another manager who accused Pearlman of stealing the group away from him. The lawsuit is currently being settled.
``The company is very healthy,'' Bennett said.
Billboard magazine senior editor Chuck Taylor, for one, was impressed with Natural. The boy-band phenomenon is going to be around for some time, he said, as evidenced by the hype over 'N Sync's latest album, and despite the recent misfortunes of Backstreet Boy A.J. McLean, who checked into rehab.
``Lou Pearlman is the Madonna of the business side of music. I think he reinvents himself with the trends that go on in music,'' Taylor said. ``I think he's going to be around longer than most of the bands that he creates.''
Pearlman was hurt by the defection and subsequent lawsuits, eventually settled, filed by his biggest successes, the Backstreet Boys and 'N Sync, in the late 1990s. Both groups sued to be released from their deals, accusing Pearlman of deception and cheating them out of money.
Recent changes in the industry have also worked against Pearlman, some say.
The pop market is harder for groups to break into now than it was just a few years ago because there are so many acts taking up radio time, said Alan Siegel, Trans Continental's former executive vice president for records.
Siegel, who left the company three months ago to form his own business with another ex-Trans Continental vice president, said it's common for singers to change managers, and noted that companies nationwide are going through downsizing.
``There have been changes in the entertainment industry as a whole,'' Siegel said. ``I don't think Trans Con should be singled out.''
Pearlman may have lost some traction by investing millions in the movie, known at different stages as ``Longshot'' and ``Jack of All Trades.'' Described variously as a vanity project or home movie of his pop acts, it stars soap-opera actress Hunter Tylo and Trans Continental vice president Tony DeCamillis; features actor Paul Sorvino and comedian Gilbert Gottfried; and has cameos by Britney Spears and 'N Sync's Justin Timberlake.
Pearlman said last week that it has found an international distributor and will be released in Europe in September.

WRITE WRITE WRITE
Alright, so the TRL thing never really worked, but what about writing to the person with strings - RCA. Everyone band together and write RCA about their lack of skills in the promotion department about Innosense ( and if you want to pen another letter, do it for Wild Orchid as well ). People need to wise up and see on how much talent they have, and would lose if they don't get their priorities straight. Innosense is forging ahead as a group of four, but they will need more support if RCA would back them up as well. Well enough of my complaining, I'm writing a letter to RCA and to Innosense as well ( they need to cheered up, and to show that the fans really do care )

Mandy News
Mandy will be a model in a hair show at club Tabu in Downtown Orlando June 17th at 7pm. You can buy tickets at David James Salon, or the club itself, any time up until the show, but tickets are limited. They are $25 (or $50 for VIP tix). The event is to raise money for the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.

Songs from Napster
Get the Innosense songs off of Napster while there is still time. Download "Go Baby Go" and other rare songs before they are taken off of it.

NO... dammit
The Innosense world is mourning.... Jenny Morris decided to leave the group, an official annoucement will made soon. The other girls, Nikki, Mandy, Danay, and Veronica, are going to stay together as four. Jenny's last show with the girls which took place last Friday night at Sea World's Middle School Grad Nite.

Queen for a day
Nikki was named Queen at a Festival in North Carolina. Here is the article.
Bennett to head up festivities; April Azalea Festival names singer, queen

He may have left his heart in San Francisco, but the rest of Tony Bennett will be in Wilmington on April 5 for the opening concert of the 2001 N.C. Azalea Festival.

The Grammy-winning singer (and latter-day MTV Unplugged headliner) will perform at 8 p.m. at UNCW's Trask Coliseum. Tickets are "only $40," said Festival President David Kauffman.

In other announcements Wednesday, Mr. Kauffman said pop singer Nikki DeLoach of the all-girl quintet Innosense will reign as Queen Azalea 54.

Ms. DeLoach is no stranger to Wilmington, having acted here in the film Traveller with Bill Paxton and Mark Wahlberg and in the made-for-TV feature Never Quit: The Jim Valvano Story. The Azalea Festival will be April 5-8.

Speaking in the festival's new ticket office at 5725 Oleander Drive, Mr. Kauffman characterized 2001 as "bringing back Azalea Festival traditions." After staging an outdoor performance last year at the Wilmington airport, the festival will move its Thursday night concert back to Trask Coliseum. Mr. Kauffman expressed concern about possible bad weather and added, "Tony Bennett is generally an inside act."

Also, the festival is reviving its Saturday night concert, also in Trask Coliseum. Festival officers had canceled the Saturday show last year, after a 1999 concert by Donna Summer barely sold half its tickets at $38 apiece.

The headliner of the April 7 concert will be announced shortly, Mr. Kauffman said.

Nevertheless, a few changes are coming to the venerable Wilmington celebration, first held in 1948.

The free Variety Show, formerly held Friday nights at Legion Stadium, has been ended because of low attendance in recent years, Mr. Kauffman said.

Instead, the festival will use the money to beef up its free Friday night street fair downtown, billed as a "locals-only" event. The Legion Stadium fireworks display will move downtown, Mr. Kauffman said, and free entertainment will be highlighted by a concert with the contemporary Christian group Avalon.

Clyde Beatty-Cole Bros. Circus will again come to town for the festival. This year, however, the big-top attraction will camp at the airport.

In addition, show-goers will be able to order tickets online this year through the Azalea Festival's Web site.

Fans can reserve their seats for the Tony Bennett show by mail at P.O. Box 51, Wilmington, NC 28402, by phone at 794-4650, by fax at 794-4651, or online, according to festival office manager Jenni Jobes.

Street fair organizer Jim Clark said the downtown event would try to "give the festival back to the family." In addition to the April 6 Avalon concert, the fair will offer a "street dance" on Saturday, April 7, featuring the Mardi Gras band with Sammy O'Banion, and the "real" Joe Pope Tams.

Among riverfront attractions during the festival will be Theodore Tugboat, a full-size replica of the hero of the children's public television series.

The Azalea Festival ticket office - in Suite B-7 of the Oleander Oaks shopping center off Oleander Drive - has scheduled its "grand opening" for Feb. 23. Mr. Kauffman said he hopes to announce the Saturday night entertainment and the festival's celebrity guests at that time. He also hopes to unveil the festival's 2001 poster, to be designed by Wilmington artist Deborah Cavenaugh.

The next major festival-related event will be the Azalea Festival Princess Pageant, to be held March 9 in Thalian Hall. The program, which offers scholarships to high school seniors from New Hanover, Brunswick and Pender counties, will choose a Princess and her court to serve as official year-round representatives of the Azalea Festival.

Born Aug. 3, 1926, in Queens, N.Y., Anthony Benedetto honed his singing skills in Army bands during World War II and performed on Arthur Godfrey's radio talent show as "Joe Bari."

In 1950, he was discovered by Pearl Bailey and Bob Hope and, as Tony Bennett, was signed to an exclusive contract with Columbia Records on the basis of his demo recording of Boulevard of Broken Dreams. By 1964, he had scored 24 Top-40 pop hits.

Although he continued to perform and win critical raves, Mr. Bennett's record sales declined during the 1960s and '70s, recovering after his son Danny took over as his manager. In recent years, Mr. Bennett was a presenter on the MTV Music Awards (with the Red Hot Chili Peppers) and made memorable appearances on Late Night With David Letterman and The Simpsons.

Ashlee Nicole DeLoach was part of the cast of The Disney Channel's revived Mickey Mouse Club; fellow cast members at the time included Justin Timberlake and J.C. Chassez of 'N Sync and Christina Aguilera.

She and the other four members of Innosense have opened on tour for 'N Sync and Britney Spears (who was also a member of Innosense before going solo in 1997).

Parting is Such Sweet Sorrow...
Innosense and Just-In Time Management have decided to go their seperate ways. They have been seperated for a little while now... it is undisclosed when they seperated and who is Innosense's new management. They parted on good terms and will remain to be friends with Lynn.

New Article
All you 'N Sync fans will recognize their names, but do you recognize their talent? Take this moment to familiarize yourself with the girls, their music, and their message.

Lindzi.com: How'd the group form?

Nikki: The group came together with an idea by a lady named Lynn Harless. Lynn took the idea to Lou Pearlman. We all met Lynn in different ways. Some of us through 'N Sync. Some through working with them earlier. Jenny and I had met in L.A. a long time ago. We all came together and we're now Innosense.

Lindzi.com: Where'd the name "Innosense" come from?

Veronica: Basically Lynn & Lou had thought of it in the beginning. We spell it differently because we're not trying to say we're innocent little four-year-olds. It's more like have a sense of yourself and believe in what you're going after and just do it.

Lindzi.com: What was it like hearing yourself on the radio for the first time?

Mandy: It was crazy. We were in a limo on our way to Denny's to eat and had just finished a show, which ended up being hilarious because it was at this night club.... but anyway, we were all dressed up and all of a sudden Say No More comes on the radio. We were like "Oh my gawd!" We started hanging out the roof and telling people outside, "Come listen! This is us! This is us!"

Jenny: You know that's your song and you know ya'll's voice is singing, but it seems like someone else is singing it. And then you hear the DJ say, "That was Innosense with Say No More!"

Lindzi.com: Do you have a particular favorite track off the album?

Danay: My favorite track to listen to would be You Didn't Have To Hurt Me because I was going through a special time in my life, when we recorded it. I kind of go through that every time I hear it or sing it.

Lindzi.com: How will you know when you've hit it big?

Jenny: Hopefully it'll be sometime soon, but I don't think it'll ever get to that point. Fortunately, or unfortunately, when you're in this business you're so involved in the business aspect of it that you don't even realize how popular your music is. I'm a TV fanatic and, being on the road, I miss so much TV and radio. On the bus, I'm always talking to the girls or watching the same movies over and over. When you're starting to make it you don't realize how big you are until you're selling millions and millions of albums. Then you might realize you're pretty big. {laughs}

Nikki: I think that we would have hit some type of greatness whenever they make fun of us on either Saturday Night Live or some sort of spoof on South Park or The Simpsons. We would have a lot of fun doing SNL... not just performing, but actually being a part of the skits because all of us are actresses and drama queens.

Lindzi.com: Drama queens, huh? Does that ever create a problem when you're on the road?

Danay: We all have our moments.

Veronica: {laughs} Ask Chris our sound guy!

Lindzi.com: What do you think it is about fame that changes people?

Veronica: I think they start believing all the hype. They start thinking that they're ultra cool. We hope and pray every day that we stay humble along the way. If we do make it, there's nothing that should change us.

Jenny: If it does, we'll kick each others butts!

Lindzi.com: What's something you've learned about yourself in the past year?

Jenny: That I'm very very emotional. That sums it all up... that's all I'm going to say.

Danay: I'm extremely picky. Anal, but I didn't know any other way to say it besides picky.

Veronica: That I depend on people.

Nikki: I used to have a tendency to depend on other people for happiness. I got to the point where I couldn't be myself. I'm okay with it now. I guess it's hard to do when you're around a lot of people, but by being around them, I've been able to recreate myself. I've found something very strong that I can depend on.

Lindzi.com: What was it like touring with your buddies 'N Sync & Britney?

Nikki: It was fun. I think all of us really enjoy touring. We like the whole atmosphere of doing a show every day. The crowds we so... you just fed off them. They wanted to see you perform. You'd go out there every day and they'd always be excited no matter what city. That gives you so much of a reason to love this, besides loving it yourself.

Lindzi.com: What do you do in between shows for fun?

Danay: Sleep? {laughs} Don't ask me.

Mandy: I have two Chinese puppies. I take care of them. I spend time with my boyfriend, friends, and family. I like to go out and club sometimes... shopping.

Lindzi.com: What is the dating scene like for you?

Jenny: For some of us it's hard than others. Mandy and her boyfriend dated before we started touring. I guess it would be difficult trying to meet somebody on the road and trying to keep a relationship. Fortunately, we haven't run into that too much. For those of us who do have boyfriends, we've worked it out. We all have our SkyTel pagers.

Lindzi.com: We all know how possessive 'N Sync fans can get (hey, I am one!) and it seems like you're often put as dating each of the guys. Are there any rumors you want to clear up?

Danay: I'm clearing everything up...

Veronica: Hold on, hold on. We don't know what the rumors are, girlfriend. No. Clear it up once you know what the rumors are. {laughs}

Lindzi: Okay. {talking to Nikki} First off, you and JC? I don't know... supposedly...

Nikki: Him and I dated for a long time. We dated for like six years. But we broke up, like, years ago.

Lindzi.com: Yeah, I guess people have to realize that these are just rumors because you're each put with a different guy every time I check.

Jenny: The most recent one I saw relating to me was that I... First of all, I never knew any of the 'N Sync guys before I joined this group! The only way I'm friends with them now is from being affiliated with this group. Not because of anything else. The rumor is that I had to sleep with a certain member of the group... fine, it's obvious.. I slept with Justin so his mother would put me in the group. That was my rumor. Too bad I never met Justin until four or five months after I joined the group. That hurt my feelings. Not to mention that his best friend is my boyfriend, which really made him upset! I'm just playing. He knew it wasn't true.

Nikki: Rumors are just... that's what they are rumors. I guess they draw some kind of attention so... hey... talk all you want! Bad press is good press.... or at least, that's what they say.

Jenny: We try not to take anything too personally, but think about being in that person's situation. Step back and say, "Would I want someone saying this about me?" Even if it doesn't hurt us, it's embarrassing for people to think of us in that way. Whatever happened previous to being in this group happened before we were formed. That's like asking who you dated in kindergarten. It's really trivial.

Lindzi.com: What has been your most memorable experience as a group?

Nikki: Our tour bus broke down for like the 34th time. A tour bus that has supposedly never broken down. It's raining outside and we have to catch a flight. We have 27+ bags of luggage and wardrobe and we're talking HUGE bags. We have to load them into a patty wagon.

Danay: That's what they put convicts and dead body's in.

Nikki: We had our luggage all on top of us and then there was a police car too that kept the rest of our luggage and our tour manager. We took off. The cop car broke down. Needless to say, we caught the flight, but it was the weirdest thing.

Danay: That same day we were waiting in Fort Lauderdale for a van to come pick us up, but it broke down. That was three in one day. On top of that, they asked us to sing while we were in the patty wagon. We were like, "Whaa?"

Lindzi.com: What's the craziest thing a fan has done to meet you?

Jenny: We're not like guys are with the girl fans... how they throw underwear. I mean, let's hope that doesn't happen. I think for a girl or guy or any fan to fly from like NY to FL for a show, that's pretty loyal.

Lindzi.com: What were you like in high school?

Mandy: I did the whole cheerleading and homecoming thing. I had a show choir called Attaché and we traveled a lot, competing in the states. I did musicals during the summertime. I got to do Sandy in Grease and that was fun. Mainly, just trying to study.

Danay: I was a nerd. I was a complete outcast and I hardly hung out with anybody. That whole outcast thing only lasted until 11th grade. 12th grade was the best year of my entire life. Everything was perfect.

Jenny: I wasn't in high school much, but I did spend one semester there. I was tutored most of the time. I found out how girls were, in high school, and I found out who my true friends were. I was such a teacher's pet. My friends would make fun of me because they thought I was kissing up. I would never answer questions, but they'd always call on me and I knew the answers.

Nikki: My school life was normal up until seventh grade. That's when I started MMC. I'm sure it would've been really fun. My sister goes through it and I kinda go through it with her.

Veronica: I was a cheerleader in high school. I went in Tennessee, then Colorado, then back to Tennessee. Then I came here.

Lindzi.com: What's your ultimate goal in life?

Innosense: To be happy!

Jenny: To be content with who I am and where I'm at. Very few people are really, truly happy.

Nikki: People aren't happy 100% of the time, though.

Jenny: Well, not 100% of the time, but to some degree.

Lindzi.com: What drives you insane?

Danay: Everybody knows this... when somebody takes something of mine without asking. If they don't ask for it, then it's a no. If they ask for it, I usually say yes.

Nikki: I really hate when people condemn other people. Not to say I haven't been guilty of it, but I try. Also, I'm anal about cleanliness and organization. I drive them nuts on the bus, I'm sure. {Girls nod. LoL.}

Jenny: When I really don't know what's going on and I'm not informed. Even if it's something good and I don't know about it, it makes me so mad that it's not even good anymore.

[Editor's note: Veronica & Mandy chose things that make them happy.]

Veronica: When I don't have to worry about anything and I can just go with my friends and play at a circus or fair or in the snow. It feels so good to me.

Mandy: When everyone's happy around you. There's no worries. It's just a breath of fresh air. Everything's going perfect and there's good spirits and souls around you.

Rockin the Mall in Phili...
From the Courier Times
Teenyboppers aren't always femalefans of pop groups. That was evident at Neil A. Armstrong Middle School yesterday afternoon as the male students slid back and forth along the bleachers so as not to lose a view of the performers behind a speaker. "The boys are more excited," said 13-year-old Bill Kulbinn about the girl bands he had previously seen on the Disney Channel. Innosense and Dream paid a visit to the school on Wistar Road, giving the 700 students, their teachers and a few parents a preview of the groups' concerts tonight at Neshaminy Mall, one of 77 malls on the Rock the Mall tour. The tour is associated with "Do Something," a charity started by actor Andrew Shue. According to the charity's Web site, www.dosomething.org, the mission of the group is to create a "nationwide network of young people who know they can make a difference and take action to change the world around them." D. J. Feldman, who introduced the bands, told the group of fired-up spectators that "anything you want to improve in your community, 'Do Something' can help with resources and funding." According to Innosense tour manager Kari Sellards, when the Rock the Mall tour - which sometimes involves five shows a day - is finished, both acts will join famed boy band 'N Sync on its tour that begins Nov. 7. Armstrong students enjoy the performances of Innosence and Dream. The four 15- and 16-year-old girls from Los Angeles, Ashley Poole, Diana Ortiz, Holly Arnstein and Melissa Schuman, who make up Dream, seemed just as starry-eyed over their upcoming tour with 'N Sync as those in the audience were when the group performed its single "He Loves U Not." " 'N Sync, HELLO?" said Ashley in disbelief that she would be sharing a stage with the group. "We really look up to them," said Diana. "They inspire us." The girls of Dream, who are tutored while on tour, aren't the only ones in a state of disbelief. "Oh my God, oh my God," 13-year-old Sharon Harnatkiewicz repeated over and over after the concert. She was still in shock that she actually had seen Dream in person after watching them perform their single on the Fox Family Channel. Armstrong eigth-grader Justin Resrode received a special treat when he got a hug from Innosense singer Mandy Ashford. Fourteen-year-old Justin Resrode also received a special treat when Innosense singer Mandy Ashford hugged him. The five young women of Innosense - Nikki Deloach, 21, Jenny Morris, 20, Veronica Finn, 19, Mandy Ashford, 21, and Danay Ferrer, 26 - rocked the house with songs from their "So Together" CD. But Danay also received cheers when she told the students that they should have a good sense of themselves. "Be confident and stick to your beliefs," she told the Bristol Township teen-agers. Britney Spears started with Innosense before she achieved fame on her own. Dream was discovered and is managed by Sean "Puffy" Combs' record label, Bad Boy Entertainment.

Interview with Jenny Jones
Oct. 17, 2000
Q. How did you guys all find each other?
Nikki: Our manager, Lynn Harless (who is also Justin Timberlake's mom)? We kind of came together through her and N'Sync. I've known Justin and JC [of N'Sync] since we worked on the Mickey Mouse Club together when we were younger, and that's how I met Lynn. Danay and Joey [Fatone from N'Sync] had gone to high school together, so Lynn met Danay through Joey. Mandy and Lance have known each other basically all their lives and performed together, so Lynn met Mandy through Lance. We met Veronica in Memphis through Justin and all of his friends. And actually, Jenny and I met a long time ago in LA about five and a half years ago. We were both out there doing acting stuff, so we've known each other for a while.
Q: Are people constantly trying to get you guys to set them up with the N'Sync boys?!
Jenny: "Tell Justin I LOVE HIM!"
Veronica: Yeah, the little girls are always saying "Tell Justin I love him and I'm going to marry him!" or "Tell him Sweetie1625@aol.com says hi!"
Q: I'm sure you pass all of the messages on.
Veronica: I know! Or they'll give us notes to give to Britney [Spears] when we're on her tour. But it's really cute.
Q: Did you guys work with Full Force on your album? Aren't they super old-school rappers?
All: [enthusiastically] YEAH!
Nikki: They're the best guys ever!
Jenny: They wrote and produced a lot of really popular songs, like "All I Have to Give" by the Backstreet Boys. They're really talented guys, and even before I was in the group, they were really supportive of the girls.
Nikki: They were the first ones to work with us and actually give us the confidence to go in there and do the best that we could do. They've kept in touch with us and supported us since the beginning, so we give them LOTS of love!
Mandy: They also have one of their own tracks on our album, So Together. It's called "A Real Good Man."
Q: How long have you guys been together?
Veronica: About three years. Jenny has been with us for almost two years, and I didn't come in until three or four months after the others.
Q: So who's the most innocent?
[All laugh after a little awkward pause.]
Danay: I guess we each have our little "thing." But that's not what our name means! But Chris is the most innocent!
[points to one of their entourage and all laugh]
Jenny: My dog!
Danay: We spell our name Innosense, and it basically means having a good sense of yourself. If you do that, and you're confident and you stay true to your beliefs, you can accomplish anything in your life. That's how we feel about what we do.
Mandy: That's why it's spelled with "s!"
Q: Do you guys get a lot of heat for that? You guys all had a really strong reaction.
Nikki: No? it's just that a lot of times people interview us, they ask us if we're innocent or if we're claiming to be innocent. So we know it's expected!
Jenny: It'd be different if we came out and we were completely covered and we were squeaky clean. But we try to be who we are, and we're not perfect. We're human, and we're going to make mistakes in our lives, I'm sure. That's not what our name is about; it's about being who we are and knowing who we are.
Danay: We're not totally the other way! It's not like we're really bad; we're human!
Q.: So you guys had to send in audition tapes, right? Did any of you do anything crazy or out of the ordinary?
Mandy: I sent in tapes of all the musicals I did in high school, like when I played Sandy in Grease, or Adelaide in Guys and Dolls.
Nikki: And Mandy's picture, oohhh! I just have to do it. It was like the beauty pageant blond bombshell from Mississippi. She was looking back like this with her long blond hair. It was so funny and cute!
Danay: I had Joey [from N'Sync] in mine. We did West Side Story together, so I sent a tape of that in.
Q: Where do you guys all hope to be in one year, and then five years?
Nikki: RICH!
Danay: Hopefully, in a year, we'll be headlining our own tour and we're already recording our second album. In five years, married! I'll be 31, so hopefully I'll be married. To whom, I don't know! I am completely single in a very bad way!
Nikki: Seriously, I would like for all of us not just to be happy, but to be together and actually not change. People change every single day, and not necessarily for the better. I don't want any of our hearts to change. I don't want the business to affect us negatively. Definitely grow and mature, but not change.
Q: Have you seen people affected by fame in negative ways?
Jenny: It goes back to your family and how supportive they are. The people who are stuck up or have an attitude have really put up with a lot of crap getting there, and they don't trust people or see truth in what anyone says. And that's really sad and unfortunate for someone to be so famous but yet so unhappy. You have to have happiness within yourself and your surroundings.
Q: You said you were single. You guys have access to the most wanted men in America! Are you attracted at all?
[Girls laugh]
Mandy: With all the different places that we've been? There are so many attractive guys out there. But some of us have had boyfriends since even before we got in the group. We're always meeting new people and making new friends. But those of us who don't have a boyfriend, we date but there's no time to get into a serious relationship right now.
Veronica: The next morning, you're gone anyway.
[All start laughing and whispering and teasing Veronica telling her how it came out wrong and she exclaims she didn't mean it that way!]
Danay: A note on those famous attractive people we know? They are great friends who give us great advice.
Q: When guys come on to you, it must be hard to know you're never going to be in the same place.
Mandy: It's just funny. Nikki was just saying today?
Nikki: Well, these guys were just really staring, and Mandy and Jenny were just like, 'stop staring!' but they were trying to be nice. I think of it as a compliment, but most of the time, it's probably not because they think I'm hot, but because I have toilet paper hanging out of my pants! That always happens to me!
Danay: It's kind of hard meeting people because we are constantly, constantly on the road and you don't know why a guy is talking to you. Sometimes guys get starstruck by us and we don't know we they like us, if it's because we're in a girl group or what.
Q: Have you ever read anything in the press about you that wasn't true?
Jenny: I had something funny happen to me on this big Web site. They were announcing things about Innosense, and they said something about "Jenny, who's also engaged to AJ from Backstreet Boys?" Well, Amanda, who used to be in the group, is the one dating AJ so they got the story all mixed up. So people from the record company were calling me to find out if there was something I needed to tell them!
Mandy: I've read that I've dated Nick Carter [Backstreet Boys], and he does have a girlfriend Mandy that is a singer with blond hair. But it's not me, and it's not Mandy Moore. I don't know who she is!
Q. Do you have anything else to tell the JJ Web surfers?
Nikki: Yes, the album is out! Shameless plug. It's called So Together, and it's out in all stores.
Jenny: We promise you you'll like it, and there's a little bit for everyone in there.
Danay: Jenny Jones rocks!
