Felicitaciones!Vice-President Gloria Macapagal became a new member of the Academia Filipina on Jan, 16, 2000. Photo shows the Vice-President receiving her diploma from Cardinal Sin along with some members of the Academia during a simple ceremony at the Archibishop’s Villa San Miguel Palace, in Mandaluyong. Vice-President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo received her diploma of membership to the Academia Filipina de la Lengua Española on Jan. 16, 2000, from fellow member and Manila Archbishop Jaime Cardinal Sin at the Archbishop’s, Villa San Miguel Palace, in Mandaluyong. Macapagal was cited by the Academia for her contributions to the spread of Spanish culture in the country. The membership makes the Vice-President an automatic member of the Royal Academy of the Spanish Language in Madrid, Spain. Among the other illustrious members of the organization are Sen. Claro M. Recto, Secretary Alejandro Roces and Ambassador Enrique Syquia.
