April's Home
She stirred the Hamburger Helper in the pot as she talked to Simone on the phone. Every now and then adding a "uh huh" or a "really?" as Simone talked about her honeymoon.
"April, is something wrong?"
"No. I'm just fixing myself some dinner."
"Oh. Well, if it's not a good time…"
"No, no it's fine." She wanted to change the subject quickly, there was no since in bringing Simone down while she was on her honeymoon. "How is Noah dealing with his mother being back in town?" Damn April, that wasn't much better…
"We both decided on the plane here not to discuss it. She almost ruined our wedding and I'll be damned if she'll ruin my one and only honeymoon."
"Good. You two needed sometime to be away from here and with each other."
"Whoa, boy, we've been with each other alright…"
"Oh come on Simone." She laughed.
"April." Her voice grew serious, "I want you to be happy."
"I am hap--"
"No you're not. Go out tonight and have some fun, will you?"
"I might…"
"April."
"Fine, okay I will."
"Good. You need to have some fun."
Rhonda's Café
Max Allred nursed his coffee waiting for Kate to show up. It was his day off but it sounded urgent. Kate walked into the café looking disoriented. Something must be up as he took another sip from his coffee
"Hey Max." She looked at the waitress at the counter, "coffee, black."
"Kate you have impeccable timing." He said dryly, "what is it?"
"I'm going to need a leave of absence from the force." The waitress placed her cup on the table and Kate picked it up immediately and began drinking heartily.
"May I ask why?"
"My older brother and his wife were killed in a car accident."
"Oh my God, Kate, I'm sorry."
"In their will they left me their son to raise. I'm going to need time with him to help him get settled in and well, get to know each other."
"Understandable. How much time?"
"Three or four weeks."
"Of course, you got it."
"Thank you Max." She rose from the booth.
"You let me know if you need anything."
"I might need advice on raising a teenager…"
The Robinson Home
Charles picked up the paper that he had yet to read and dropped his rum and coke reading the main page. "Oh my God…"
Natasha walked in smiling, "I see you've read the good news."
"Natasha what in the hell are you thinking?"
"Not happy? Oh, too bad… and I was expecting your full endorsement. Oh well, I've accomplished plenty of things without your help."
"Like robbing me blind?"
"Oh silly Charles, I hardly robbed you blind. If I wanted I could have taken a lot more than I did. Trust me."
"Natasha, how much is it going to cost to get rid of you this time?"
"Not one red cent. I'm moving back in and I'm going to be this town's next councilwoman." She said proudly.
"You are not moving in."
"Charles, in case you have forgotten we are still married. You're entitled to half of this house, entitling me to a quarter of it. You can't legally kick me out. If it comes down to it I'll just section off my quarter of the house, the house is large enough for that and Alexandra and I could very happily."
Phyllis' Press Conference
Phyllis took a moment to smile at the flashing cameras.
"Miss Slater! Miss Slater!" A young reporter jumped up, "Miss Slater!"
"That's Mrs. Miller, darling, but continue."
"How do you feel about the announcement today that Natasha Robinson will be running for city council?"
"Ha, darling, it is laughable. Tell me, would you trust a woman that has only been in town for a week to carry out the best interests for Heaven Beach? I think not and knowing Mrs. Robinson from personal experiences that crooked woman is out for herself, and only herself."
"Mrs. Miller!" Another reporter called out.
"Yes?"
"Do you think it will affect your campaign that you are currently married to a twenty-nine year old, Mister Brad Miller Junior?"
"Love knows no age, sir, and I am a firm believer in that and I think the intelligent people of Heaven Beach can overlook that minor issue. Now if you will all please excuse me our time here is finished. Thank you." She stood up and smiled one last time at the cameras before turning and walking out through the backdoor where a limo awaited her.
Maria's Home
Ethan knocked furiously on the back door of Maria's house.
Maria opened the door quickly. "Stop knocking so loud. You'll wake my dad up."
"We need to talk." He said sharply.
She turned back behind her and stepped outside closing the door. "What is it?" She said in a hushed whisper. She looked past him and saw Monica standing off to the left of him. She knew what this was about.
"So he's at it again?" He walked up to her and pulled the hood down covering her face and stepped back in shock. "That son of a bitch."
A tear rolled down her cheek and she looked at Monica. "Why did you tell him? It wasn't any of your business."
"Maria I was concerned…"
"Yeah, well, thanks a lot for your concern."
"Monica isn't the person to blame here. It's that son of a bitch inside." He pointed at the door.
"Just stop it Ethan. How do you think this makes me feel? You shouting at me, Monica butting into something that doesn't even concern her. Do any of you people ever stop and think about how I might feel? I'm the one getting hit and there's nothing I can do about it. Nothing." More tears began streaming down her face. "Just… Just leave me alone."
He reached out to her. "Maria…"
"I don't want to see you anymore Ethan. Don't come here ever again you're not welcome." She walked inside and closed the door. Leaning up against it and falling to the ground.
"Ethan… I'm… I thought I was doing the right thing."
"You were Monica." His eyes watered up looking at the closed door. "She was right you know… I never once stopped to think about how she felt…"
Monica wrapped her arms around Ethan, "shh… Of course you thought about how she felt, you wouldn't be this upset if you didn't. You're just worried about her that's all…"
Le Club Populaire
"Some people would think we were damned fools for coming here after what happened last week." Jonathan said as he slid onto the leather booth. The waitress placed two menus down and got their drink orders.
"Some people would." Elizabeth looked around the crowded dining area. "It's surprising though, so many people here…"
"Certainly is. It's as if people have forgotten all about the shooting incident."
Life sure does move on quickly in Heaven Beach she thought. "I think I might be noticing a trend of some sort."
"What might that be?" He asked while browsing the entrees.
"I'm not really sure… It seems life moves in fast forward in this town. Before either us moved here there were two murders in our main office--"
"Oh that's comforting…"
"And the District Attorney offices were up and running the very next day, can you imagine? And look at this place, nearly at full capacity… It's just odd…"
"Indeed. So, what are you ordering?"
She loved listening to his rich southern accent. "Oh… I don't know…" She bit her bottom lip and grinned at him.
April shrugged as she chewed the last olive drenched in her martini. Some night out she thought. Why she listened to Simone was beyond her. As bad as it was, she could even stand just a one-night stand right now… Just someone to hold her for a while so she wouldn't feel so lonely. I miss you Kyle, more than I think you know…
"Excuse me."
She looked up at the handsome dark man standing in front of her booth. "Yes?"
He blushed for a moment before proceeding, "Do you mind if I join you? I'm usually not this forward, I swear, but you just looked like you were having a lousy time and well, I'm having a lousy time and I wouldn't mind some company."
"Sure, have a seat." Once he sat down she smiled, "I'm April Moore and yes I was having a lousy time."
He put out his hand, "Luke Campbell, pleased to meet you."
There was a brief moment of a silence before she spoke again. "You'll have to excuse me, it's been a while since I've been on the prowl." She laughed at her ridiculous comment.
"Same here…"
The Robinson Home
"How do you feel about the announcement today that Natasha Robinson will be running for city council?"
"Ha, darling, it is laughable. Tell me, would you trust a woman that has only been in town for a week to carry out the best interests for Heaven Beach? I think not and knowing Mrs. Robinson from personal experiences that crooked woman is out for herself, and only herself."
Natasha sat looking in disgust at her rival on the large television in the living room.
"This could be the most conversational election to hit Heaven Beach since the 2000 presidential election. Back to you Tom…"
She shut the television off angrily. "Laughable." She mocked her opponent. "I'll show her laughable."
"I always knew you were nuts." Jacob walked into the living room.
"What are you talking about?" She shot back fiercely.
"Talking to yourself? Certainly not a big sanity plus."
"Oh shut up. Why don't you go talk to your son - oh wait which one."
He clutched his heart, "oh Natasha I'm so deeply upset. But wait, like you've been the ideal parent in the first place."
She gasped, "how dare you!" She raised her hand to slap him.
"Come on, go ahead."
"I-I hate you!" She exclaimed, her eyes full with fury.
"Why so much yelling?" Charlotte said coming from the kitchen and making her way down the three steps to enter the living room.
"Charlotte I want you to throw this piece of trash out!"
"The only trash that will be thrown out of here is you."
While walking out of the living room she said, "I would like to see you try and throw me out." She knocked shoulders with her roughly causing Charlotte to loose her balance and fall onto the bottom step.
Jacob ran over to his mother, "are you all right?"
"Help me up." She grabbed his hands and pulled herself up.
"Are you all right?" He repeated.
"Yes. I just slipped."
He turned his attention towards Natasha who was still standing on the top stair. "If you ever hurt her again I'll kill you."
"Oh really? Jacob, the elderly slip, it happens."
"Go to hell."
She smiled, "I'll see you there." With that she walked off out sight.
"Are you sure you're okay? God, I hate that woman…"
"Jacob, thank you."
"Yeah, well, I have my moments."
Le Club Populaire; Owner's Office
Even with the door closed Alexandra could still hear her father's booming voice as he talked to the man inside. She had spotted him walking past the employee's only doors and clearing out the kitchen before entering the office. The employees stood bewildered outside while the wait was irritating the diners.
Alexandra jumped up as a loud crash came from within the room. No doubt her father's infamous slamming fist tactic that he was well-known for in the Senate during heated debates. "Next time I'll come directly after you if you don't hand over that tape and forget all about your little scheme."
She heard footsteps coming towards the door and scurried off past the employee's only doors. "Lady, do you know what's going on in there? The costumers are getting impatient."
"I'm not sure. Tell me something, did anything, oh I don't know, out of the ordinary happen in the past few weeks?"
He chuckled, "you're kidding me right?" The blank expression of her face told him she wasn't kidding. "You mean you don't know what happened?"
"No…"
"The whole place was shot up."
"What? No way…" She walked past the employees once more and outside the restaurant, waiting for her father. Not more than five minutes past before he came storming out of the front doors almost running into his daughter.
"Alexandra? What in the devil are you doing out here?"
"Father I am speechless…"
