The Robinson Home - The Next Morning
The sunlight poured out from the windows, Simone groaned, as she finally became conscious from the previous night. She slowly rose from her lying position on the floor, still dizzy. She touched her forehead, "my head…" she said reaching out for the table for support. There was a faint bruise on the side of her forehead. Stirring from upstairs alerted her and she began adjusting her clothes.
Alexandra groggily trudged down the stairs, hold on to the railing. She stared at Simone for a moment, letting everything sink in. "Simone?" She mumbled.
"Hi, um, I was going to-I have some errands to run, I'll talk to you later." She quickly ran out of the door, clutching onto the letter.
"Yeah, bye, whatever," she yawned still half asleep.
Outside, Simone leaned up against the door, "what am I going to do?" Never mind, just leave, she said to herself.
The Slater Home
Victoria glared at Brad, who had just entered the kitchen. She poured the freshly-made coffee into her oversized mug and added cream and sugar.
"I'd like some coffee too," he said approaching her.
"Well, then, get it yourself," she brushed past him.
"Okay, hey wait a sec," he turned around to face her.
She shrugged and stopped walking, "what is it?"
"What are you doing today?"
"I have a date with Trevor, and, no you're not invited," she took a long sip from her coffee, "well, I believe we're done here, wouldn't you say so?" She turned back around, "Good morning mother," she said brightly walking out of the kitchen.
"She's rather perky today, oh, darling, fix me a cup too, extra cream." Phyllis picked up the newspaper, "Phyllis Slater-Miller ahead in the polls," she said aloud, "now that's what I like to see."
Doctor Harris de Paul's Office
"Come in," Harris called out as he wheeled his chair around to face his first patient of the day.
Mia Brooks entered the office, closing the door behind her. "Bright and early eh doc?" She asked, her hair was still wet and she was dressed in board shorts and a tank top, "sorry about the appearance, but I don't dress up this early."
"I apologize, Miss Brooks, but when a case as interesting as yours comes along, I at least want the first session to be my first appointment. Before I have to hear the usual bickering and selfish antics of failed marriages. Come, sit."
She sat in the chair across from the desk, "excuse me if I don't want to move to the couch first thing." She chuckled.
"Whatever makes you comfortable," he put on his glasses. "If you don't mind, I'd like to start right away." Without giving her time for a response he continued, "Mia, I'd like for you to recall the time before this last attack, how were you feeling? What was going on?"
She took in a deep breath, "I had been feeling ill the entire morning, then my friend Austin came into my dorm, he was angry, at me. Things got kind of out of control, he began shaking me. That was right before I passed out and then I don't remember anything that happened until I talked to you at the hospital."
He shifted in his seat, "why was Austin angry with you?"
She shook her head, "it was ridiculous, I can't believe he would ever think I would do such a thing…" Her thoughts trailed off, a moment later she focused back on her doctor, "Austin accused me of sleeping with his sixteen year old brother, Ethan. Doesn't that sound ridiculous? Like I would ever do such a thing."
"I see," he clasped his hands together, "Mia, if you don't mind me asking, how many sexual partners have you had?"
"Why, only one, of course, Austin, we made love one night, it was my first and only time. I haven't had a sexual relationship since then. A memory jarred her…
Mia climbed on top of Amir on his leather couch. "I've wanted you since that night I met you in the café." Amir said as he took off her shirt.
"I never thought I'd break you down." She let her hands glide up underneath his shirt. "But I'm glad I did."
"I want you Mia, right here, right now."
She touched her temple, "ow."
"Do you need a minute?" He asked, leaning forward.
She shook it off, "no."
"What were you thinking of, just now?" He moved back in his seat.
"Nothing, it was nothing…"
The Slater Home
"Yes Adel, he is home, hold on just a second," Phyllis covered the phone as she called out for Kip, "Kip! Telephone!" She brought the phone back up to her ear, "How are you Adel, darling?"
Adel shrugged, "It's been bittersweet around here lately, Chad's wife gave birth to a set of beautiful, healthy twins, Del and Fallon."
"Aw, I'm so happy for you Adel, who would have thought you would have beaten me to being a grandmother? But darling, tell me, how is that bittersweet?"
There was a brief pause before Adel spoke again, "Chad's wife, Bethany, passed away shortly after giving birth to the twins…"
Phyllis stood there for a moment, unable to find words, "my God… how terrible. I'm so sorry Adel, if there's anything I can do--"
"I know, thank you." She sighed, "Phyllis."
"Yes?"
"Please take care of my son."
"Darling, you know I will."
Adel choked on her tears, Phyllis was the only person she ever cried in the presence of, "I know you will, I don't know why I said it, you've always been such a better mother than I have."
"Darling, don't do that to yourself, you're a great mother, Kip lights up every time he speaks of you, your children love you, Adel, you've raised them well." She smiled at Kip who was approaching, "here's Kip, take care of yourself." She patted Kip on the back and handed him the phone.
"Hello?"
She wiped her eyes, "Oh God Kip, it's so good to hear your voice."
"Mom, what's wrong?" He took the phone in the living room and shut the doors.
"You're an uncle Kip, to two very beautiful twins, Del and Fallon."
He leaned up against the couch with a huge grin on his face, "wow… I can see Chad's gleaming face, he must be so proud, and you and Dad, and Bethany. I wish I could have been there."
"About Bethany… Kip, I'm not sure how to say it, she's," she took in a deep breath, "Bethany died after giving birth to the twins." After a minute of no response she spoke again, "Kip?"
"I'm here."
She could clearly hear the sadness in his voice, "Kip…"
"Mom, I want to come home. I need to be with my family."
"Kip, you know that isn't reasonable. We'll be fine, we'll get through this, we always do. Stay strong, make me proud. I love you son."
"I love you mom, goodbye." He hung up the phone.
Phyllis opened the living room doors, "I promise I wasn't listening in darling," she walked towards Kip, "but your mother had already told me and I wanted to be close by," she reached out her arms, "come here," She put her arms around Kip, "I know how much you must miss your family, and none of us will blame you if you want to go back, just remember, you will always have a place in this family, always."
Rhonda's Café
Simone absentmindedly sipped her coffee sitting at a table in the quaint setting of Rhonda's Café. She set her coffee down and dug through her purse, bringing back out the letter. She read it for what seemed the hundredth time, it was his handwriting, it was his favorite Shakespeare quote, it was him. But how was it possible? She had left Portland eight years ago, gotten away and arrived on the safe shores of Heaven Beach. She could still remember that feeling when she first stepped off the plane and breathed in the fresh, salty air.
"You look like hell," Kate sat across from Simone, waiting for her orders to be made.
She snapped back to reality, "thanks Kate." She folded the letter and put it back in her purse. "What are you doing here?"
"Picking up coffee for the guys, first day back at work and they have me picking up their coffee. It's good to back." She said sarcastically. "Something wrong?"
"No, I'm just tired." She stood up, "I need to get back home, I'll see you around."
Doctor Harris de Paul's Office
"I believe that is enough for one day, but if you could do one thing for me, please." He sat forward.
"What?" She asked.
"I want you to tell me you've come in close contact with while living here, friends and enemies."
"Wow, enemies too? Doc, let me be honest with you, I haven't made very many friends in this town. And the one friend I did have, I managed to mess things up with him, so, you're not going to get any help, from any of them."
"Mia, if you please, I think it would be vital to your recovery. All I want to do is ask these people a few questions, I probably won't even meet with them in person, you have nothing to be afraid or embarrassed about."
After a moment she began reciting the names slowly, for Harris to write down, "Austin Robinson, Laurie Ruerup, Kyle Roberts, April Moore, Amir Chazel, Luke Campbell, Philip Wadsworth, Ethan Robinson." She rose, "don't expect any help out of those people, I've managed to almost ruin each of their lives in some way or another."
He jotted down the final name, "thank you Mia," he stood up and shook her hand, "take it easy, get a lot of rest, go to the beach, enjoy the summer. Live life as if nothing is wrong, I will get to the bottom of this, that I promise you."
Le Club Populaire
Laurie kissed Philip on the cheek, "go ahead and get us a table, I need to go speak to someone."
Philip nodded and walked off, she approached a booth seating two familiar faces, she had not seen them since the night of the shooting. "Hi," she smiled, "I just wanted to introduce myself, we've met before, I just don't think we ever learned each other's names."
"How could I forget?" Victoria stated, remembering the night of the shooting, "Victoria Slater, pleased to meet you, this is Trevor Gale."
She nodded at Trevor, "I'm glad to see you're back on your feet, I know it must have been terrible for you. I'm Laurie Ruerup."
Victoria dropped her glass, the contents covered the table, "Ruerup?"
"Yes, Ruerup," she looked strangely at Victoria.
"Something wrong Victoria?" Trevor asked.
"Oh, no, um, it's nothing," she smiled, "nothing. Laurie tell me something, have you seen Kip since the shooting?"
"Actually, no, I haven't."
She scribbled a number on her napkin, "this is cell phone, why don't you give him a call? He could really use some friends, well, some his age." She handed Laurie the napkin, "don't worry, he isn't some physco, he's really very sweet."
"Oh, of course not, thank you, I've been hoping to bump into him somewhere. But, if you'd excuse me, I need to get back to my date. Goodbye." She walked off.
"Sweet girl," Trevor said sipping his iced tea.
"Perfect for Kip," she gleamed, "aw, Kip's going to get a girlfriend."
"Victoria, honey, did you miss the past where she said she had to get back to her date?"
"Please, I saw him, he doesn't have a thing on Kip. How exciting, Kip really needs to stop just hanging out with us."
"Well, well, the happy couple." Sarah approached the table, Amir behind her.
Victoria shrugged, "here we go…"
Austin's Dorm
"I know what you're upset about." Ethan said entering the room, "I'm very intuitive." He sat by his brother, "you want a second chance with Laurie, and the only person standing in your way is that Philip guy. But don't you fret," he pointed his finger in the air, "Ethan Robinson is on it and by the time I'm done, Laurie will be asking Philip who?"
"Ethan, I appreciate the concern, but your hair-brained schemes never work out," he said with compassion.
"Hair-brained schemes? Pfft, you just wait a see. Wait, hold everything," he looked at the clock, "Love and Honor finale is on!" He exclaimed as he turned on the television, "it's down to two, Trista and Joan, I don't see why he didn't pick Ophelia, she was working it like nobody's business."
Austin looked amazed at the television, "Hey look, it's that drunk guy that called us!"
Kyle burst onto the Love and Honor set and began professing his love to Trista, "Yeah, wow, I wonder if he's sober now..."
April's Apartment
April sat on her couch, enjoying her day off by channel surfing. She turned around to look at the clock and suddenly froze, hearing her ex-boyfriend's voice coming from the television, she slowly turned back towards it.
"Trista, you complete me." The camera focused in on Kyle and Trista as they met in a tight embrace.
"What?" Her mouth dropped as she continued her fixated gaze. She pinched herself to make sure she hadn't dozed off. "Oh my God, this is real." What a way to find out the love of your life has moved on, she thought to herself as she grabbed the phone and dialed Simone's cell, her voicemail automatically picked up. "Damn," she muttered as she hung up the phone. She noticed her favorite picture of her and Kyle up on the fireplace mantel. She walked over to it and slung it across the room, "damn you Kyle!" The picture made a loud shattering noise as it made contact with the kitchen wall. A knock came to the door.
"Go to hell! I'll make as much damned noise as I please!" She shouted in the direction of the door.
"Um, April, it's Harris. I was just walking by, I heard a loud crash, is everything okay?" He pressed his ear up against the door.
She pulled him inside and pressed him up against the door.
"A-April…"
"I've seen the way you've looked at me, Harris, well now you're going to get what you've been wanting." She violently began ripping his shirt off.
The Robinson Home
Simone walked into the Robinson living room and spotted Noah right off hand, he was sitting with Natasha and Alexandra, "Noah, we're moving." She stated firmly as the three looked at her, astounded.
