Episode 1
About 500 years ago in Japan, a hanyou(half-demon) named Inuyasha,
stole the
Shikon no Tama, a sacred jewel, to become a whole youkai (demon). But
before
he could escape with it, the injured miko (priestess)who was guarding
it,
Kikyo, seals him to a tree. She takes it from him and requests to the
villagers and her sister, Kaede, to burn the Shikon no Tama with her
body.
In present day Tokyo, Kagome Higurashi is at her house (which is also
an old
temple), where her grandfather is talking to her about how he's selling
key-chains that look like the Shikon no Tama. She tells her grandfather
that
key chains like that aren't cool anymore. As she holds it the cat, Buyo
starts playing with it. The grandfather starts to say that there is a
legend
about the Shikon no Tama, but Kagome changes the subject to her
upcoming
birthday. The grandfather tells her that he got her present, he wanted
to
wait until tomorrow (her birthday) to give it to her, but he'll give to
her
now. Kagome is less than please when she sees it's the foot of a water
goblin. She feeds it to Buyo, much to grandfather's dismay due to its
rarity. That night during dinner, the Grandfather starts saying that
the
pickles have an interesting history, but Kagome says that they got them
from
the store. The next day (Kagome's 15th Birthday) as Kagome heads off
for
school, she stops in front of the well located on the same grounds as
the
Shrine, she sees a her brother, Souta, with a bowl. She tells him that
he
shouldn't be playing around there. He tells her that he is looking for
,
Buyo. He thinks Buyo wandered into the well. Kagome and Souta then
enter the
well hut. Kagome approaches the well and sees Buyo. She picks the fat
cat up
and hears a scratching noise from inside the sealed well. Then the top
of
the well bursts open and white ghost like hands come out of the well
and
grab Kagome. She drops Buyo and falls into the well. While in the well
a
Centipede Mononoke(evil spirit)who pulled her in, starts licking her
asking
her for Shikon no Tama, which thinks Kagome has. When Kagome pushes her
away
due to a strange force that comes from Kagome's hand. The force causes
the
mononoke to lose and arm and be blasted away. Kagome continues falling
and
reaches the bottom of the well. She calls for Souta and when he doesn't
respond she assumes he ran off. She climbs up the well and is shocked
to see
she's in the middle of a forest.
After she gets out of the well, she goes though the forest looking for
her
house. She finds the Sacred Oak (which is also at her house) with
Inuyasha
still sealed on it. She climbs on a root to feel Inuyasha's ears.
Suddenly,
arrows are shot at Kagome. She turns around and sees some villagers,
who
take Kagome to their village because they believe she is there to harm
them.
At the village, Kagome is the center of attention. Some women think
she's a
shape-changing fox. Kagome is baffled by the amount of topknots. Soon,
the
aging miko, Kaede approaches who through demon salt at her. When she
sees it
has no affect she realizes Kagome's human. She gets a closer look and
notices how similar she looks to her late-sister, Kikyo. Later that
night,
Kaede feeds Kagome some stew in her hut. Suddenly, the Centipede
Mononoke
attacks the village. Kagome and Kaede leave the hut only to be greeted
by a
horse thrown from the centipede's mouth. Kagome decides that since it's
after her she'll lead away from the village and towards the forest of
Inuyasha, where she came from. Kaede is surprised to learn that Kagome
can
see the lights above the forest, unlike normal people. As Kagome is
running
away from the mononoke, she cries for help which wakens the sealed
Inuyasha!
Kagome eventually reaches Inuyasha's tree, and is surprised to see he
is
alive. Inuyasha asks Kagome who he thinks is Kikyo why she's fooling
around
with the mononoke. Kagome tries to tell him that she's not Kikyo, but
is
interrupted by the Mononoke's return. Kagome runs up to Inuyasha, who
then
realizes that Kagome isn't Kikyo. The mononoke attacks again. She tries
pulling Kagome off Inuyasha, but Kagome has a firm grip on Inuyasha's
hair,
then Kagome sticks out her hand, the remaining arms of the mononoke are
knocked off. The villagers arrive and pull the mononoke away from
Kagome.
Kaede is shocked to see that Inuyasha is awake. The centipede mononoke
then
bites into Kagome's side, revealing the Shikon no Tama. Kagome tries to
retrieve the jewel, the mononoke just pushes her up against Inuyasha.
Then,
the mononoke eats the Shikon to Tama and becomes even more powerful,
her
fallen arms reattach. Inuyasha tells Kagome that if she frees him her
can
save her. Kagome decides to free Inuyasha, much to Kaede's dismay.
Inuyasha
then kills the Centipede Mononoke using his "Soul Shattering Iron Claw"
(Sankontetsou). Kaede tells Kagome to identify find the Shikon no Tama
inside a piece of flesh, so the mononoke doesn't regenerate. Kagome
points
it out. Kaede retrieves the Shikon no Tama from a piece of the
mononoke's
flesh. The chunks of flesh turn to bone. Then, Inuyasha steps up and
demands
that Kagome give him the jewel or else he'll kill her. Which shocks
Kagome
because she thought Inuyasha was a hero, not a villain.
