AEC Regent V

The successor to Ipswich's early Regent IIIs, the Regent V was bought in quantity from 1957 until 1966. Initially with Park Royal bodywork, the later vehicles had East Lancs bodywork but looked almost identical. These vehicles saw off the last trolleybuses in the town (booo!)

The last four Regents ran in 1986, and three out of the four have passed into preservation, thankfully all in the East Anglia area.

ADX 63B - 63 is now cared for by the
Ipswich Transport Museum, and like ADX 1
can be found running in Ipswich on selected
days during the year. To show the advances
in bus technology, compared 1964-built 63
with 1997-built 50 next to it!

DPV 65D - This Regent survived long
enough to be repainted into the IBT colour
scheme, and was the only Regent thus
treated. Sold to someone in Somerset, it
was rescued by Doug Flory in 1997 and
is now based at the Eastern Transport
Collection barns at Attleborough. It is seen
here at Showbus 2000.

DPV 66D - After withdrawal by Ipswich, 66
found a home as the Ely Playbus. It is seen
here in that rôle in August 1991. However,
it was replaced soon afterwards by an ex-
Cambus Bristol VRT. Its current location is
unknown (if it still exists!)
