Memories from Long Ago
by Pam Howerton

Distant shadows
So vague, so slow
Some haunt me yet,
Memories from long ago.

You must have loved me
You said it was so,
Yet I never felt special
Memories from long ago.

What happened to that special bond?
The bond that was supposed to grow?
Was it ever there for you and I?
Memories from long ago.

You taught me shame
A child shouldn’t know,
Why did you do that?
Memories from long ago.

Where was my mother?
She was right there!
Yet I still love you
Memories from long ago.

Such an important man
Everyone knew that was so,
Who would EVER BELIEVE
Memories from long ago.

As a grown woman
Oh you surely must know
I still call you daddy, but…..
Memories from long ago.

You went to your maker
decades ago,
Yet i feel the guilt of
Memories from long ago.

Did you ever think twice?
Did your conscience know?
Did it really happen?
Memories from long ago.

I feel so guilty
For speaking out now,
Your not here to defend
Memories from long ago.

Are you in heaven?
I do hope so,
For I still love you daddy
Memories from long ago.
