Duty Calls
Author's Name Withheld
Duty calls
And so we walk
With heads held high
We talk the talk.
Concrete walls are all we see
Iron bars their cages be
Monsters held against the night
With strength of arm and threat of might.
That children's dreams untroubled be
Pleased you don't see what we see
We keep your demons in our cage
And hope you'll never see their rage.
We'll feel the bite and take the pain
And mourn our comrades hurt and slain
Easily done the job is not
But we'll always be there and battles fought.
Of our tears you'll never hear
You'll never know about our fear
The dreams we have of death and doom
Icy sweat and thoughts of gloom.
But we'll be there to walk those halls
We'd rather not
But duty calls.
