The conference focusses on the textual transmission and the intertextual influence of Greek tragedy in antiquity. Papers discussing specific textual problems are possible but we are especially interested in submissions dealing with larger issues of textual transmission, reception and intertextuality. Discussions of sources about theatrical production (vases, archaeological evidence, etc.) are also welcome. Papers can be submitted and delivered in any of the major European languages. Speakers will have 20 to 30 minutes for their presentations. People interested should send a 600 word abstract by March 8, 2002 to battezzato@zeus.sns.it (please send the abstract as main text of the message, not as an attachment).

The organizers include: Dr. L. Battezzato, Dott. M. Fassino, Dott. L. Prauscello (Scuola Normale Superiore); Dr. E. Medda (Scuola Normale Superiore e Università di Pisa); Prof. Dr. R. Ferri (Università di Pisa), Prof. Dr. Dr. G. W. Most (Scuola Normale Superiore). Prof. F. Ferrari (Università dell'Aquila) and Prof. V. Di Benedetto (Università di Pisa) will chair some of the sessions.

The conference is funded by the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (CNR). The grant is designed by the CNR to give research opportunities to young people, i.e., according to the CNR regulations, to scholars who were not over 35 at the time of the application for the grant (June 2000). The age limit is not strict, but the conference is meant in principle for postgraduate students, for students who have a postdoctoral grant, or for junior faculty. The funding will allow us to host 15 to 20 people, and pay for part of their travelling expenses. We are planning to draw a final list of speakers by the end of March 2002.

We are planning to publish the papers on the website of the Scuola Normale. Publication in book format will depend on further funding.
