For who but devoted fans would craft a crucial scene of possibly the greatest movie of all time in accordance with the lyrics of a relatively not widely known Don song? If you have seen the film, then you will be astonished at how obvious it is. If you haven't- go out and rent it right now!! You haven't LAUGHED till you've seen it! The scene in question is that in which Brian wakes up one morning, and goes to look out the window, fully in the nude. To his dismay, a whole mass of people are staring up at him, convinced he is the Messiah and waiting upon his every word. Brian attempts (after throwing on a cloak!) to make it clear to the mob that they mustn't let him, or anyone else, tell them what to do; that they are all individuals, and accordingly must act of their own free will. It honestly makes for one of the funniest scenes ever shot (a group of a thousand or more people chanting as one, "Yes, we're all individuals."), but is also proof that Monty Python were fanatical Don lovers! Consider this verse from "Jump", a terrific gospel-type song of Don's from the Prime Time album; a song which, inexplicably, was never released as a single. One man was cold and hungry, one man was rich and well ONE MAN STOOD AT THE WINDOW AS THE CROWD BEGAN TO YELL Well the poor man prayed to Jesus, and the rich man made a deal ONE MAN WAS STANDING NAKIE YELLING "DO WHAT YOU FEEL"! Could anything more aptly describe the scene than "One man stood at the window as the crowd began to yell... [and he] was standing nakie yelling "Do what you feel!"??? That man IS Brian! And since "Life Of Brain" was released in 1979, two years after the release of Don's "Prime Time" album in 1977, Monty Python were clearly inspired by Don's words, not vice versa. Isn't it terrific?? So when you proclaim your adoration of the greatest musician of all time, you not only join the esteemed ranks of many talented and wonderful people all over the world (like myself), but also of Monty Python, the cleverest and funniest comedians ever! Great, huh?? |
"The DM-MP Connection" My Groundbreaking New Theory that proves that Monty Python, the greatest comedy team of all time, are devoted fans of the greatest musician of all time, Don McLean! |
