Part 8
Jack waited, his patience growing thin with his team members as they remained quiet about their argument.
"Will one of you tell me what the problem is already?"
"I cannot," Teal'c said, then turned and headed off towards the trees once more. Jack arched his brow then looked at Daniel.
The anthropologist sighed then said, "He's not very happy that one of the villagers approached him."
Jack's eyebrows arched high. "Approached 'him'?"
Nodding, Daniel said as he folded his arms across his chest, "Apparently they wanted to choose him. He felt very uncomfortable about declining..."
"But I thought we'd already made it clear to Nesquar that we were 'all' together?"
"Sure, but it's not going to hurt to reaffirm that, is it?' Daniel said.
"How?" Jack frowned.
"Next time the villager approaches Teal'c he's going to call me on the radio.."
"What for?"
"I'm going go and help.. uh... prove it.."
Jack grew wary. "And how are you going to do that?" Holding his hand up he kept Daniel silent when he said, “tell me, tell me, it’s not what it sounds like it’s going to be?”
Casually Daniel said, "I’m going to kiss him."
"You're going to kiss Teal'c? On a mission..?" the colonel was surprised and shocked by the annoucement.
"Sorry, I guess I didn't think I'd need your permission. Do you have any real objections to it?"
"Yes, Daniel I do!" Jack sighed heavily, amazed that the younger man wouldn't realise that.
Daniel tilted his head slightly. "Why?"
Gripping him by the elbow now, Jack steered him from the crowd. "Because you can't go around kissing your team members while you're at work!" He hissed.
"Hang on. My job is to help create and foster ties with indigenous people of the worlds we visit.."
"And this helps, how?"
"Because if he didn't have this excuse, he'd been seen as snubbing a native of this world and we can kiss that treaty goodbye Jack!"
"Ever thought they'd accept a simple 'no'?"
"He tried that one. And received a visit from the girl's father, asking him why the girl was not good enough for him."
"Aye!" Jack sighed and raised his hands to grip his head tightly.
"Jack, they don't seem to grasp the simple concept that he wouldn't want to stay here anyway, even if he did find the girl... attractive.."
Jack's head quirked slightly. He wasn't sure but he thought he heard jealousy in Daniel's voice.
"So, this is totally for the treaty?" He asked, his eyes narrowing and his face screwing up as he cringed slightly.
With rapid blinking Daniel tilted his head and said, "Yes."
Okay, so maybe it was possessiveness in the tone instead of jealously.
"When's it going to happen?" Jack asked.
"When he calls for me," Daniel said, with a shrug. Suddenly his radio made a loud static noise and he looked up at Jack. “Well, wish me luck,” he muttered as he smoothed his hands down the front of his pants.
“Not sure I should,” Jack said. Daniel frowned and stared at him a moment.
“Why?”
The colonel’s mouth dropped open slightly and they remained in a locked stare. The loud crackling of the radio again broke the moment. Daniel looked down then up into Jack's eyes once more.
“G’luck,” the older man mumbled quietly. Daniel swallowed and headed over towards the tree line while Jack remained where he was, with his back to the tress and his eyes shut as he tried to think of a way of preventing this. By the time he’d come up with an alternate solution and turned to tell Daniel, it was too late.
“Wait, what about Sam?” He’d been saying as he turned around, but the others were out of earshot. “Damn!” He hissed, and then cringed uncomfortably as he watched Daniel run his hand across Teal’c’s shoulders and down his back while engaged in conversation with the villagers.
There was a lot of head shaking going on, Jack noted, and Daniel's free hand was flinging around as they talked. For a moment it looked like the two team members would get away without a physical display but suddenly the larger male villager stepped back and flung his hands out towards them, obviously asking for proof.
Jack closed his eyes and lowered his head, muttering, “Aye..” under his breath again. When he looked up they were already kissing; both of Daniel's hands cradled the round, brown head as he stretched up along the length of Teal’c’s body. The Jaffa’s large hands gripped Daniel by the hips, and seemed to hold him against his body firmly, if the arch in the archeologist’s back was any gauge.
There was definitely enough familiarity about the stance, especially as they began to change positions - snaking easily against each other with inground familiarity - to make it seem feasible and believable! Even Jack started to doubt the ‘ex’ in this relationship!
When Daniel's hands began to slip down Teal’c’s neck and onto his shoulders, Jack really wondered if this kiss was still for show. The anthropologist looked pretty convincing from this distance, especially with the way his face nudged hungrily against Teal’c’s throughout the fervent kiss. With his hands now nestled in the curve of the Jaffa’s broad back Daniel looked like he was ‘home’.
To help matters – if, in fact, matters needed helping, which Jack doubted very much - Teal’c’s hand now rested comfortably on the younger man’s rump, just below the rise. Very comfortably, Jack realized as an uneasy feeling washed through him. Quickly he looked around to see if anyone else was watching the display but was glad to see that no one seemed to be paying the two of them any attention. Not even the villager and his daughter, who had just turned and walked away.
“Okay, come on, Danny,” Jack muttered under his breath. When the kissing couple still didn’t cease the colonel sighed and hit his radio. Suddenly Teal’c and Daniel sprung apart and turned to look towards him. Jack held his hand out, showing that the others had left. Daniel wiped the back of his hand across his mouth then he bashfully looked at Teal’c, who seemed to have a bewildered smile on his face. Jack rolled his eyes then spoke into the radio, “Good show, guys!”
Daniel ducked his head, raising his hand to scratch at his long hair absently as he wandered away from the area. Teal’c watched him walk off and was about to say something when Jack’s voice came over the radio, “You may wanna hightail it back here, Daniel. We’re still on a mission..”
Teal’c looked across at him then tilted his head to say, “We will return shortly, O’Neill.” He promptly turned and headed off after Daniel.
“For crying out loud..!” Jack hissed under his breath again as he lifted his cap from his head and banged it against his thigh a few times.
*
Teal’c found Daniel a short distance away, sitting on a log. He stepped over the low-lying trunk and sat beside the hunched over man.
“Are you alright Daniel?” He asked.
“Yeah.” The younger man nodded as he reached for a twig off the ground. Drawing shapes into the dirt, he went back to his reflective thoughts.
“I did not wish to embarrass you,” Teal'c said after a long silence between them.
“No, you didn’t-”
“I entered your mouth with my tongue,” he said, sounding contrite. Daniel tilted his head, flicking his long fringe from his eyes as he looked at his ex-lover.
“I .. uh.. I noticed that.”
A smile trembled across Teal’c’s thick lips. “You sucked upon it.”
“Oh!” Daniel smiled through clenched teeth. “You noticed that, huh?”
“Indeed.”
Wetting his lips, the younger man looked down, going back to his drawingin the dirt.
“Do you wish to resume our relationship?” Teal’c asked bluntly. Daniel's brow’s arched up high.
“Oh, uh.. No..” He said, elongating the last word slightly. Teal’c bowed his head a fraction.
“Do you?” Daniel now asked.
“I do not. I would be most disappointed if we were to resume it.”
The anthropologist felt slighted. “Oh? Why?”
“It took many sessions of Kel’Nor’Reem for me to rid myself of you.”
Daniel closed one eye as he arched the brow of the other slightly and cringed. “Ouch.”
Teal’c tilted his face and looked at him. “Many sessions.”
Daniel blinked then looked down at the dirt by his boots. “I’m sorry.”
“Do not be, Daniel, for I learned many lessons from you as well,” Teal’c said casually as he leaned back onto outstretched arms.
Not sure he wanted to know what they were, exactly, Daniel laughed softly and asked, “any of them good?”
Teal’c looked at the bowed head as he said, “many of them.”
Daniel looked up and smiled, this time it was a warm, genuine smile as he looked into the dark eyes of his friend. “That’s nice to know.”
Teal’c smiled then looked away as he said, “I recall a time when you and I would discuss O’Neill’s poor treatment of you..”
Daniel lowered his eyes. He recalled that time too. It seemed a lifetime away now.
After a short pause the Jaffa finally said, “I am glad we are all friends once more.”
Daniel smiled, crinkling his nose slightly as he looked up. “Yeah,” he said softly then tilted his head to look into Teal’c’s eyes again. “So am I.”
Standing up now, Teal’c held his hand out to Daniel and helped him to his feet. “I thank you for your assistance in this matter.”
“Anytime. Well, not anytime.. but.. you know..”
Teal’c laughed deeply and softly. “I understand, Daniel.”
Rolling his eyes, the bumbling anthropologist pressed his glasses back into place on his nose as he said, “Good. Now, maybe we should get back to Jack.”
Teal’c bowed his head then held his hand out to indicate for Daniel to go first. Together they went back to the village where an anxious Colonel was waiting for them.
