A letter to Thomas from an uncle Daniel Hamlyn

Guernsey, March 27th, 1833

My dear boy,

I have taken the Liberty of writing you a few Lines, hoping that they wilt find you in a perfect good state of health as it is with me, thanks to be God, because I have need to thank God because I have nearly been Launched into Eternity. I have been attacked with a very sore disease called the cholera, of which it did not want much that I should have been called for to appear before my Almighty God. It was a striking and an awful thing to see the number of bodies taken from each of my sides to be carried to the dust of which they had been taken for to appear before their Almighty. How thankful must I not be to see that he has spared me till this very moment.

You did not mention tn your letter whether you had received your indentures that I did sent by Mr. Brana.rd but Let me know by the nect writing. I am very glad that you have heard of your father.

William Johnson sends his best respects to you. Henry Mudgett Mr. also but for your school
that all for the present.

I remain your affectionate uncle,

Daniel Hamlyn

My Dear Brother

I now take this opportunity to writing to you which I hope that your Wife and Dear Children are quite welt. I am sorry to say that My Dear Father is very ill. I thought that I should have lost him a few days ago but thank God he has heard My prayers and has Restored him to me this far but he is still very bad and very little hopes of his getting
better. Dear Brother I wish that I could see you. I wish that I could
come out to you. I have been trying to come out to you along whilc for
if I Lose My Father I shalt Lose alt in this world. I shall be left to
the wide wide world to seek protection but alas there is few in this world that will look to you. I have not heard from My Brother Edward not once since he has being gone but by ou in your letter I wish that. I knew where he w.as I would write to him as I quite long to see him Dear Brother. I think it very strange that he has not wrote to Father but if he did not like to write to use he might have wrote to Grandfather one that always look to him as his only child But he is like the rest of the world out of sight out of mind. I wrote to him once since he has being gone but he never thought of writing to me I therefore think that he thinks that he cares nothing about me. I suppose that he forgets that he has got a sister or one that thinks anything about him but My Dear Brother iiou are both of you in my thoughts I am always think about you whether I shall ever see you in this world But I hope My Dear Brother that you won’t forget me for I had once a good home But als I have none but I suppose Edward told you all about it. I have been in London 4 years I wish that I had never left the West Indies for there I was happy. I wish that you would send to Father to send me out you. I would come for Mother behaves very bad to me but if you write to Father do no mention that I wrote to you My Dear Brother give my love to My Sister and to my Dear little Nieces and Nephews. I remain your ever Devoted and Loving Sister.
