Courtney Walsh's Gloucestershire County Cricket Club Career

Courtney Walsh was first signed for Gloustershire County Cricket Club in 1984- and then selected for that years West Indies tour to the UK. He did play a few matches for them though.He has played for them every year to date, except 1988, 1991, and 1995, when he was touring the UK with the West Indies team. He also wasn't able to play in 1997 due to an extended West Indies international season.

He was appointed captain of Gloucestershire in August 1993, and held the position until the end of the 1996 season. In mid-June 1998 he topped 800 Championship wickets for the county.

Courtney's last season with Glos was 1998, so these stats are now complete.

800 First Class Wickets for Gloucestershire

During the match against Worcestershire, 17-20 June 1998, Courtney took his 800th First Class wicket for Gloucestershire. His first wicket was at New Road on Sat 18th August 1984, when he dismissed Martin Weston. His 800th wicket was also at New Road on Friday 19th June 1998, when he dismissed Steve Rhodes. Worcester is obviously a Happy Hunting Ground for Courtney! And 2500 runs

By coincidence, in the same match at Worcester, Courtney also passed 2,500 First Class runs for Gloucestershire. By coincidence, I happened to be at the match so unbeknownst to me, saw both milestones.

Courtney finished as leading wicket taker in the County Championship, beating Andy Caddick (105) by one wicket. 7 times he got 5 wickets in an innings, and twice he got 10 in a match. He also took 4 catches. No wonder he says he is very tired!
