History of this site

The site was started in April 1996, when I needed to learn about HTML at work. I decided to set up a site about Courtney, as there wasn't much about him on the web at the time, and he is my cricket hero.

It took me 2 years to compile all the stats for the site, and they were finally completed in March 1998. They have been added to as he plays since then. He has now retired so should provide a complete statistical record of his career. Photos, and various special pages have been added from time to time, and will be added from time to time too. I might even put some photos of my Courtney memorabilia on here!

In April 2000, the site had become too big and busy to be hosted in my work filestore any more, so the site was moved to it's new location, hosted by Netscape. It then had to be moved to a new Netscape location. I have now decided to move it to Yahoo Geocities where hopefully it can stay for a while! My longterm aim is to get my own domain.

Credits

The statistical sources for the site are

West Indies Cricket Annual, 1982 to 1990.

Red Stripe Caribbean Cricket Quarterly, of which I have the complete set, 1990 to present.

Wisdens Cricketers Almanack

The Cricketer magazine.

Thanks to Andrew Williams and Adrian Thomas, both Glos CCC members, who helped me compile all the stats for Courtney's Glos career, and also pointed out milestones like his 800th wicket for the county.

Thanks to Flavia and Paula in Jamaica who keep me up to date with news and send me photos and cuttings.

A lovely lady and good friend, Sheila Lee in Melbourne, Australia made some of the graphics and backgrounds for the site for me. Sadly Sheila passed away due to Cancer a few years ago. RIP Sheila, and may your spirit live on in the graphics you made for this site.

Web site mentioned by Courtney on Sky

Courtney was a studio guest on World Cup Centre on Sky Sports on 2nd June. At the end of the programme, as well as wishing Malcolm Marshall well for a speedy recovery from illness, he also said
THANK-YOU TO JACKIE HEWITT WHO HAS DONE A WEB SITE FOR ME
Thank- you to Courtney for thanking me on air in front of millions worldwide- it means a lot! And I managed to catch it on video as well

SOME OF THE STATS FROM THIS SITE HAVE BEEN USED IN COURTNEY'S AUTOBIOGRAPHY. As a result I got a mention on the credits page

Wisdens Cricket Monthly in December 2000 had a feature on player web sites, and they included this one. Here is what they had to say:-

The URL is 2 site locations ago so ignore it!

The site was also featured in Courtney's 1998 Gloucestershire Testimonial Brochure.
