Johnny Depp was born to an engineer father and homemaker mother in Owensboro, Kentucky. Though his initial dream was to become a rock and roll star after taking up the guitar, Depp's looks soon took charge and with the help of actor Nicolas Cage he got his acting debut in the movie Nightmare on Elm Street. After attending acting school, Depp then starred in the movie Platoon and the television series 21 Jumpstreet. Though scandal dogged him for the next few years, Depp achieved great success in the movie Edward Scissorhands. From that point on his work has rarely been less than stellar, appearing in such films as What's Eating Gilbert Grape and Donnie Brasco. Recently, appeared in The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and Pirates of the Caribbean
