Energy Fundamentals

TAI CHI BASICS

  • Head is held as if suspended by a string from above,
  • continuous and returning.

HSING YI BASICS

  • hold the chest
  • stretch the back,
  • relax and sink the shoulders,
  • drop the elbows
  • close up the body and rise
  • lengthen the body and lower

TERMS

  • "Sink the waist", the cocyx must be realxed and slightly uplifted, the yang qi will ascend toward heaven. This regulates the Du meridian

  • "Pressing the shoulders" is like practicing the steps, urge the rear as if erecting the waist, round the crotch to support the hips, lift the chest as if back bending.

  • "Shoulders", usually refers to the power of the " shoulder well point", sink down to to the Yong Quan (k-1). When using the power of the shoulder well point, softern the intent and relax, there will be no obstruction. When relaxing the shoulders they feel as if they are being pulled back.

  • "Urging the rear" refers to squeezing the buttocks together as much as possible. The crotch feels as if it is pressing across both inwardly and outwardly with maximum effort.

  • "Lifting the chest" refers to lifting the chest as is resisting a force form the front. Relax the shoulders ass if you are putting forth strength. Both sides of the back bone press forcefully together, the energy originates from below the navel, from the internal organs revolving outward to the head and then returns.

  • eyes looking to the tiger's mouth (Li-4), of forward hand;
    [near where the index finger and thumb meet]
  • toes out at 60 degrees,
  • heart is as quiet as still water,
  • while the crown of the head gently presses upward,
  • the bai hui point at the crown part of the head,
    has the feeling of being sucked inward;
    chin gently tucked in,
  • the insides must be lifted,
  • when the feet kick, the whole body must be empty,
  • energy sinks to the lower Dan Tien.
