FAQ

Jadeite | KoI | Dancing Moon

All questions are taken from various websites, mailinglists and private conversations, so somewhere someone has really said this. Okay, my lousy memory might have changed details, but the context still holds.

Jadeite

Jadeite is the youngest/weakest Shitennou.

Nope, that would be Zoisite. First of all, Zoi is the only one who is still in training, and until you've finished school you stand below everyone else.
Second, Jadeite has better self-control, and doesn't have to rely on someone else like Zoi-chan *coughKunzitecough* Third, their ages are written in the Materials collection, and Jadeite is around 18 while Zoisite is merely 16-17.
Fourth, while Jeddy's powers aren't as impressive as Kunzite's he easily blocked Sailor Moon's attack, until Mars managed to hit him in the back with her ofuda. Meanwhile, Zoisite got hit by Makoto, before she was even transformed, and he lacked either the strength or conviction to catch the Senshi alone and had to get help from his mentor.
This isn't to say that Zoisite is a bad general, he's dangerous and sly, and if he had lived to get more experience he might have outranked Jadeite.

Jadeite is a moron, because he can't recognize Sailor Moon!

And that makes Usagi a what, since she can't recognize Mamoru...?
In the Sailor Moon world, no one seems to know anyone else unless they see them transform. This means that the Senshi, and all enemies, either do something to change their appearance, and the we the audience doesn't see this since it would be too confusing, or they're all retarded except Fiore who is a genius ^_^

Jadeite only had bad plans

Uh, no, I really can't agree with this one. He did get energy on a few occasions, and if you count in that not less then three Senshi appeared during his time, he didn't do so bad.
If anything, Jadeite's mistake was that he underestimated the Senshi badly and didn't realize that taking smaller amounts of energy wouldn't be as noticeable. But if you want really bad plans, go look at Kunzite's record... they all went down the drain.

How can you like Jadeite? He's a real bastard!

Yup. You just noticed?
I don't know why people feel the need to say this as if it was a huge revelation (or think that it would make me stop like him)
He is a villain in a show about a heroin of Love and Justice, and more then that, he was the first villain. Of course he has a nasty personality, it wouldn't be much of a fight otherwise! Creating an interesting tension is one of the basics in all good storytelling.
I like my evil and twisted characters, and most people who fall for the anime villains say something similar if you ask why they adore such sick characters.
The fact that Jadeite and the other Shitennou are evil isn't a liability, it's one of the main reason they have so many fans.

Jadeite and Sailor Mars were lovers in the Silver Millenium

This is merely a possibility, and I'm a wee bit tired of seeing it presented as fact.
What proof do we have? One artbook image (if you count that as a proof you'd better accept that Minako and Usagi have something together) and the fact that Jadeite calls Rei beautiful. But you know, she is beautiful, especially in the manga, so maybe he was just making a normal observation? And the strange vibes he got might as well have had something to do with her power as Sailor Mars as with love.
The artbook image can be either a portrait of old lovers, or just a pretty picture Takeuchi felt like drawing, or maybe a way to show who "resembles" whom.
Maybe they loved each other once, maybe not. But it's not a fact, merely a theory.

Are Jadeite and Nephrite together in Japanese manga? I've seen some pics...

The images were most likely doujinshi, fanzines produced by Japanese who want to become but aren't yet manga artists (or they just like yaoi)
There is no cannon relationship between any of the four kings except Kunzite/Zoisite, and that's only in the anime. Everything else is fancreated, and Nephrite and Jadeite are nothing but friends in the manga.

Jadeite, Nephrite, Zoisite and Kunzite aren't kings, they are generals!

In many dubs, maybe, but in the original their title is Shitennou which literally translates to Four Kings of Heaven.
This doesn't mean that they can't be both, for instance Usagi is Sailor Moon, a warrior, as well as being the Moon Princess. Jadeite also hold the title commander of the East in the manga, so it's plausible that 'king' is an honorary title, but his role is in fact that which a general holds in an army.

What's with the Great Four? What does it mean, and who are those people?

This is what the German and Swedish dub (others too, maybe) replaced Shitennou with.
Zoisite says that he is one of the Great Four of the Dark Kingdom, and Kunzite calls himself the strongest of the Great Four.
At least it sounds better 'generals of the Negaverse'

Why is your site called King of Illusion? I thought Jadeite was the King of Fire?

I don' really know if he has the right to any of those titles, or which one in that case. The Shitennou are never given names like that, so people have just made them up.
As you have probably guessed by now, I'm supporting the idea that he is the king of illusions. My reasons are influenced mostly by the disguises he uses, as well as the many illusion-based powers he has, like creating false materia, and the mirage in the sky.
I can't really see Jadeite as the king of fire, since the only time we see him use fire magic... is an illusion. And besides, the temper connected with that title fits Zoisite a lot better.

"Yeah, and Queen Bitch is pissed again..." Jadeite said

People like the four generals. The same people don't like the one who mistreated them. Conclusion: People don't like Beryl, and when these people write fanfics, they make it so that the generals don't like her either. Which, I'm sad to inform you, isn't true in Jadeite's case.
To have Nephrite or Zoisite complain about Beryl isn't very OOC, but Kunzite or Jadeite? Oh boy, if it's not a parody and they're still evil, you are on thin ice.
Concentrating on the latter, I can say that Jadeite shows no tendencies to even think something bad about his queen, and definitely not to say anything!
If you work with the idea that the kings were brainwashed during their time in the Dark Kingdom, it's plausible that they would insult her, even if none of them show any tendencies to this in the manga. But while he is a general of the Dark Kingdom, there is no way that Jadeite would call Beryl something as derogatory. He respects, fears and obeys her to much to go there. (The line isn't taken from any fanfic, but I've seen similar)

Was there something between Thetis and Jadeite?

This is only a rumor, and while we see clear indications that the youma has the hots for Jadeite, he doesn't act as if he's returning her feelings. It is unknown what their previous history was, but nothing is certain.

You know that the "let's thaw up Jadeite" plot has been used in a gazillion fanfics, don't you?

And what is wrong with that, if I might ask? One of the most used plots ever is the old "lovers separated and reunited again" and still many, many people use this without being called repetitive.
Cliches are often good and useful ideas from the beginning, it's just that when too many writers have them, and don't bother to explore any different angles, they get boring.
There are many good resurrection fics out there, if you just wade through all the bad ones at first. It doesn't mean an author can't write a fic where Jadeite comes back to life, it simply makes it necessary for the author to be more original and explorative in the fic.

Site

Why don't you create an awards page, instead of sticking those banners all over the place?

Well, personally I never bother to look at awards pages, unless I'm reviewing a site, so it's feels pretty pointless...
Besides, if you win a trophy or similar in RL, do you stick it in the wardrobe and hope that someone will ask if you've gotten any nice prizes? No, you put it on the shelf where people might pass and see it.
Plus it saves me the trouble of creating a graphic for that page ^_~

Geocities is such a crappy webhost, you should move.

I will, soon. But the server isn't installed yet, so until then I stay here

There are too few images in the gallery

Hai, I agree completely. But you see, since I can't make any screencaps and there are so pitifully few episodes in the Swedish anime magazine... there's not much I can do *shrugs*
Only option left would be to use someone else's images, and Stayka-san's pics have already been spread all over the net. I want to have something new, something exclusive, so unless a kind soul donates more images, this will have to do until further notice.

I've got a Jadeite link/image/fanfic/rant/thingy. Do you want it?

Sure! I'd love more visitor participation, and I'm always on the hunt for good fanworks. Please consult my guidelines, and just send it on!

Personal

What's up with your name?

I actually get this one quite frequently ^_^ It's just a alias, has no greater significance. Since I danced flamenco at the time I got introduced to anime, and I wanted something Sailor Moon related (didn't we all?) I decided on Moondancer. But since someone had already used that name in the only mail account that I knew of (Hotmail) I had to figure out something new. In the end, I just reversed the words and voila, Dancing Moon was born!

When will your next fanfic come, and will it be about Jadeite?

No idea, I write when I have time (never) and energy (even more never) Next question!

Where did you learn html?

From online tutorials, and by reading books that I've borrowed from the library.
I've advanced from GEocities pagebuilder, to FrontPage to NotePad... Someday I wish to own Dreamweawer.

Dubbie or subbie?

Little bit of both, but not as you might expect. I was first exposed to Sailor Moon through the Swedish dub (episode 13 started it all!) Later on, I saw the series in it's entity, in German. I have finally acquired some fansubs, but I still like the German dub (the Swedish one has to few voice actors) even if the Japanese original is truly a cut above the rest ^_^ Of the infamous DiC dub, I've only seen a total of two episodes, the SMR movie and heard a few voice clips. It was enough.
