Bane sat, staring at the bloodied corpse of his messenger. it had been a few days since he had dispatched the young Lycan out. He had seen death many times in the past and has died twice himself. But to see someone who has had their very being or their soul for lack of a better word, ripped from their eye sockets to leave a dried out husk behind was too much for most. But Bane was not most. He had lived entire generations fighting in the bowels of the plane of hell and has fought his way through to stand beside his people once again. Quietly Jadell stepped beside him. Her lithe body and delicate footsteps always seemed to catch Bane by surprise. Her stealth spell always did that to him. "My husband, what has happened?" She asked but then her eyes fell upon the corpse. Normal women would fall back in horror but not Jade. She bent down to examine the body. She sniffed the air and waved her glowing hand over the corpse. A green tinted smoke rose from the corpse wherever her hand went. It floated and then made a loud pop and vanished. The corpse shuttered and Bane's eyes widened as Jade screamed. In a distant voice a challenge came from the dead throat of the messenger. "Fools that fear the dark shall reap the sword. Come if you will Emperor and face the death magics of ancient times for it is not your blood we seek it is your soul that shall feed our hunger." The corpse shuttered again and a wild groaning laughter echoed in the great marble chamber. Banes eyes narrowed and his knuckles turned white from gripping his thorne. In a moment of a lack of control Bane that made guards and stewards run for cover Bane stood up and hurled the solid gold throne through the large chamber where it skidded into the wall with a loud boom. Pieces of golden throne flew all about the room as Bane stormed out of the chamber to join his war council. During the commotion a very old man had slinked into the chamber behind Jade. She knew he was there, his breath reeked of wine. "Do you know what evil has awakened my Lady?" "No, I do not." She said quietly. "Lord Bane knows, my Lady, Lord Bane knows." The old man sighed and Jade turned to look upon the small man who's golden eyes, slitted like a cats, looked out the window. One would not know this small man was one of the mighty golden dragons who Bane had a personal attachement to. Jade shook off a feeling of inpending doom. When she had gotten the nerve to ask what evil the little man had vanished. Jade looked about and shouted for a messenger. She needed to get word back to the Raven council. War was coming and death magic had once again been born into the world. She had never fought death magic before and this she was sure, was not going to be an easy thing to do. They needed material, and she knew she would have to call upon some repayment of favors to get those materials. She looked down at her feet and said, "Damn, not again." LLBane |
