Hungry, Erix headed to see about dinner. As he settled into a chair next to Toul, he heard paper crinkle in his pocket. "My scouts say Bane will be here in two days," he told Toul. "Its sad," Toul remarked, "You're here for advice and help, but you may end up facing another enemy." With dinner finished, Erix went to his room, shut the door, and took the paper out of his pocket. It was addressed "Brother." Erix recognized the flowing script, when had it been put in his pocket? He opened it to read: I did a little investigating in Emani before I came to look for you, and I feel I should warn you: I think your vampire problem isn't a vampire problem, or at least not entirely. I think it is something, more ancient, more evil. And the reason I say not entirely is I killed one. It didn't die with silveron, either, it only died when I chased it into sunlight. I don't know what magic has been wrought upon these creatures, but I could sense it. It made me want to curl up shivering and take a bath at the same time. Another thing I should warn you about is Lord Silvor, but you don't need me to warn you about that. You know he has always wanted Emani for himself. When you win this war, I hope you're prepared to fight another one at home. Drax 'When I win this war,' Erix thought, 'He is more confident about this than I am.' A vampire that wouldn't die from silveron? Unheard of! He would have to tell Bane, if he didn't already know what was going on, of course. Thinking of silveron, Erix wondered again what mission Bane had sent Drax on. Bane often sent Drax on secret missions, and more that once Erix suspected it involved the use of the silveron dagger Drax had secreted about himself somewhere. Drax was the only lycan legally allowed to carry a silveron weapon in times other than a war against vampires or other lycans. Bane permitted it after the raven incident, for his own protection. Reletives and ancestors of the ravens involved (Drax had hunted down and killed all of the original ravens responsible, which got him branded as a murderer, even though Bane justified it) still sometimes tried to capture him again. * * * * * * * * * * * Drax entered his hotel room two days after leaving Erix, wondering if his friend had located Bane yet, and saw a note on his pillow. He picked it up and read it: Drax Ri'Vion Please remember the need for secrecy of your mission. I have notified a palace guard by the name of Tireux about you, he can be trusted, make contact with him. I also know you are on friendly terms with many of my palace servants, especially amongst the females (you weren't my master spy for nothing, wish you would do it again). They should be helpful in aiding you should the need arise. Howler Bane Emperor of the Lycanos Empire Supreme Commander of the Lycan Militia Helpful if the need should arise? Drax smiled, help him hide if Jade or Tam start to catch on. He wasn't worried if Tam or Jade found him, they were the only two ravens Drax trusted. He had pretty much an equal hate for all the other ones, though. Tomorrow he would go see this Tireaux, and then, as Erix says, the fun begins. LL Drax Ri'Vion Panther |
