The sounds of men shouting woke Tamra from her sleep. She could hear Bane's voice as he shouted commands to them. She jumped from her bed to see what was going on. As she looked out the window she could see preparations being made for a rather hasty departure. Stable boys hurriedly got horses and chariots ready. This she knew meant that the Division had been called together to leave with Bane. Tamra stood at the window and watched as Bane left the castle. She knew something horrible must have happened to bring him out at such a late hour. She went back and sat on the edge of her bed and worried. Too many times, she had seen Bane leave and wondered if she would ever see him again. It seemed that any time things seemed to get back to normal, something like this would happen and off he would go again. Tamra sighed. Being Bane's daughter had never been an easy task. She thought of calling a messenger and having Mystice updated but knew she needed more information on just what was going on. She called in Tessa, who was a servant assigned to her since she had been at the castle. Tessa had been in the process of going to bed but had obviously been privy to gossip that was quickly going around the castle. Tessa, who never stood on formality when they were alone and being a bit over excited with all the hustle and bustle, could not contain herself and began telling Tamra all that she had heard. It seemed there had been a message from Lord Erix that there was trouble with the Puritans and of all things, the vampires. Tamra listened in horror and could only imagine in her mind the horrible creatures. Bane had been called to help. She had heard Bane recount stories of these creatures and knew that this was not going to be a short-lived battle. How could vampires have reared their ugly heads again? She thought they had long since been weeded out. Word was that Bane had gone to the Wurmsteeth Mountains to enlist the help of the dragons. A pain struck Tamra's heart as she thought of the dragons. Toul, she missed him so much. He had been gone for so long. Tamra dismissed Tessa and sat on the bed wondering what Jade's reaction had been to the news. A tear rolled down her cheek as she thought of Jade. Once again she felt a sorrow deep in her chest for the woman that loved Bane. Jade had been the only mother that Tamra had ever known and she was very close to her. It was times such as these that Jade and Tamra seemed to grow closer. They seemed to be there for each other and draw strength from each other. She listened as the castle began to grow quieter once again. It was going to be a long night. Tamra decided to send a messenger in the morning to let Mystice know what was going on. For tonight, she would just sleep, or try to. She lay down and visions of the creatures that Bane would face began to creep into her mind. She tossed and turned and finally fell into a fitful sleep. By LLTamra |
