When Barbara was 23 years old, she left England and came to Hong Kong in 1982. That same year she entered the Miss Hk Beauty Pageant. Due to her height, she was ranked #9. However, her entering the pageant was the beginning of her career. TVB took notice of her and casted her as playful princess in one of their tv series that same year.
