Making Martha Popular
By Sky

"Look Martha, you've got to understand that in life, there are some things that
are better left undone. I don't think you should go and kill yourself okay. If
you really want to die, I can kill you. I will write a suicide note, and tape it
to your chest. I will push you in front of a bus. You must realize Martha, that
you just don't have the guts to kill yourself. Heather didn't have the guts to
kill herself, but unlike you, she didn't have the guts to let me do it for her.
I had to kill her without her consent. I also killed Kurt and Ram without their
consent. Well actually Veronica killed Kurt. But I coaxed her into it. You
didn't expect to hear that now did you. Well, it would be good if you were
listening to me."
Martha missed the last comment, because she was day-dreaming about her worries.
Once again, she had poured Coke all over her shirt.
"Are you listening?" JD said.
"What?" Martha looked at JD. There was a lot of pain in her eyes. It was obvious
to Jason Dean that she didn't want to live. And hey! Taking lives was Jason
Dean's job now wasn't it?! At least that was how JD saw it.
"I can shove you in front of that bus, and write a great suicide note for you!
Can you pass up on an offer like that Martha?! How about "Just because I wasn't
popular, didn't mean I didn't hurt. I can die too. It's like what George Orwell
wrote in Animal Farm. 'All animals are created equal, but some animals are more
equal than other animals.' Do you like that Miss Dunstock? I think a quote from
George Orwell is most suited to the occasion. Wouldn't you agree?"
Martha just looked at him in shock. She was moving slowly, like she was a
feather in the wind, just waiting to be blown away to a far away land, where
popularity doesn't matter, and everybody is really equal.
"Do you think I could ever become popular? I mean, if I wasn't so fat. Do you
think that the popular kids would ever grow to like me?"
Martha looked very sad, and very serious. JD didn't really care, he just wanted
to see if a genuinely suicidal person would give him permission to kill her.
"Martha, in all honesty, popularity isn't important. I'm not popular, and
believe it or not, I don't want to be. We live in a society that makes
superficiality its main leader. If we all kill ourselves, it will be a great
protest. Come on Martha. Do you want to die? Or do you want to live? It takes
courage to kill yourself. Could you do that? NO! That's why I'm going to do it
for you! If you want to live, and I mean if you genuinely wan to live, then I
won't kill you."
JD knew very well that Martha didn't like life at Westerburg High.
"Will it be quick?" Martha asked.
"That depends on how long it takes you to answer me Martha, now doesn't it?
Answer my questions Martha! How can you make a statement that can't be ignored?!
YOU CAN'T! Except of course by killing yourself. Come on Martha! This is chaos!
Feed the chaos!"
"I always liked Gorge Orwells Animal Farm. I have such a myriad array of
problems JD. I want you to help me."
"That's great Martha!" JD said, and he grabbed her arm. He pulled out the
suicide note from his pocket. He had already written it. He taped it to Martha.
"You're making the right decision Martha." JD said. They stood on the side of
the road, until they saw a truck coming. The sun was setting in the distance.
"Have you ever seen the movie 'Flatliners' Martha?" JD asked her.
"No! I can't say I have." Martha yelled. The traffic was a bit loud.
"Well, there is a good saying in that movie."
The truck was slowly approaching.
"The saying is 'today is a good day to die.' Martha?" JD said, looking at her,
with a nasty grin.
"What?" Martha asked.
"Today is a good day to die"
SHOVE.
