TWO WRONGS By Sky Chandler "Don't worry, Ram's been so sweet lately, consoling me and stuff. It'll be really very. Promise." Heather Macnamara said, as they were walking around outside Heather Chandler's funeral. "Okay, just as long as it's not one of those nights when they get drunk and go cow tipping." Several hours later, Heather and Veronica found themselves at the pasture with Kurt and Ram watching as they were cruel to a defenseless cow. 'What was I thinking?!' Veronica thought. 'Why would Ram or Kurt change? They were cruel to JD when he first came to Westerburg, and they're gonna be cruel to the next person who's not a total football conformist. I can't believe I'm here. But Kurt is pretty cute. After all he's a line backer. What would Heather say, if she hadn't killed herself. Wait, what am I thinking, now I've got myself believing that Heather killed herself. Am I in love? Am I crazy? I killed someone! I killed my best friend. I didn't like her very much, but I didn't want to serve her a cup of sink draining fluid. Who do I like more? Kurt Kelly, the line backer, or JD with his gun, trench coat, and motor cycle? WAIT! What am I thinking, I don't like Kurt! But if I only liked Jason Dean, would I have come on this double date with Kurt? Oh I'm so confused.' "I'm sorry Veronica, I thought that Ram had changed. After all, they are seniors, and we are juniors, and its just really annoying. I'm sorry, I shouldn't have asked you to come, are you mad at me?" Heather said, as she looked at Veronica sorrowfully. They were both covered in mud. 'I'm so confused, I don't like the whole idea of being here, its almost like I'm betraying JD. I don't like Kurt Kelly! How could I even think such a thing. I'm gonna tell Heather that I'm going home, and I'm gonna go, and I'm gonna call JD. I was doing Heather a favour though, and I did know her before I knew Jason Dean, but I love Jason Dean. WAIT! Did I just feel an emotion? Did I just feel an emotion for a high school guy?!' "Veronica?" "What?" asked Veronica, as she finally stopped thinking, and began paying attention to Heather. "Are you mad at me?" Heather repeated herself. Ram and Kurt were jumping up and down, while Veronica and Heather watched. The cow was on her side. "Cow tipping is fun. Punch it in!" Ram said, like a totally typical dorky jock! "Veronica are you gonna listen to me or what?" Heather repeated herself again. Veronica just stared at the hill. Heather looked to see what Veronica was looking at. Jason Dean was coming over the hill with his coat, and a cigarette in his hand. "What is this?" JD asked. Veronica ran up to JD her eyes alight. "I was just doing a favour for Heather. She wanted me to go on a double date with Kurt Kelly. Her date is Ram Sweeny, surprise surprise!" "Everywhere I go in Sherwood, all I hear about is a Heather, one Heather and another Heather, and they're all popular. I'm sure glad my parents didn't name me Heather." JD said, in a very superior manor. "What shall we do then?" "Let's go get a slushy! I believe you like Cherry!" JD said, raising his eyebrows. Veronica grabbed his hand, and he pulled her up the hill. She didn't even look back to say bye to Heather. Heather just looked up at Veronica and JD as they went away into the mist. She just looked at Ram and then looked at Kurt. "Veronica, I love yooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooou" Kurt said, in quite a pathetic way, almost like he expected her to believe him. Ram jumped on Heather. "Well Heather, it looks like its just you, me and Kurt" Ram said. "Your dress is a really nice shade of yellow Heather." Kurt said. 'She's not as hot as Heather number 1 was, but she's still pretty nice.' Kurt thought. Heather was alone with Kurt and Ram. Meanwhile...................................................................... "I love slushies so much. Don't you?" Veronica said to Jason Dean, as she paid the man at the counter for her slushie. "Well, I prefer them to the rest of the junk around here" Jason Dean replied. They went for a walk in the moonlight. They were walking in the woods behind Westerburg high, when they heard a girl scream. JD and Veronica both looked at each other, and began to run toward the scream. It sounded like Heather. But Heather was with Kurt and Ram, so she wouldn't be screaming, or would she. As they kept running toward the screaming girl, Veronica cried out "Heather!" they noticed a yellow figure staggering into the bushes. "It's Heather!, quick JD, we have to help her!" JD grabbed his gun. "Would you put that away!" Veronica shouted. "Come on! Do you want me to help Heather or not?" JD said, looking concerned for Heather's wellbeing. They ran into the woods, but they lost the figures. "I shouldn't have left her alone JD. This is all my fault." Veronica told him. "I cant believe this has happened." "I could have told you that those guys were a couple of date rapist jocks," JD said, looking aggravated at Veronica. "You could have said something." Veronica replied. They both stayed silent, as they walked back to JD's Harley, and he drove her home. "That girl was Heather wasn't it?" Veronica said. "I cant believe it was Heather. I thought that she would be fine. I cant believe this happened." "Well its not like you liked her." Jason Dean said, taking a puff on his cigarette. "How can you say that? She's my best friend!" "That's what you said about Heather." JD replied, reminding Veronica of the murder they had committed only in the not so distant past. "That was different JD, Heather could look after herself. Heather can't" "Well how about we do something about it?" Jason Dean said, with a grin on his face." They both sat there thinking, and looking at each other. "I know, what about a practical joke!" "How can you think about a joke at a time like this?" Veronica asked JD. "Well its gonna be a pretty heavy joke." "Do you mean like the joke you played in the caf, on your first day at Westerburg?" Veronica asked eagerly. "That's exactly what I mean Veronica. I have an idea." The next day at school, Veronica had heard about some rumors that Kurt and Ram had been telling about her. She had thought about JD's plan, and she had observed Heather. Heather had not really wanted to talk to anyone, and she ran out of Biology class. 'Where is Heather going?' Veronica thought. "Where is Heather going?" asked the teacher, as he walked in the door. "She's going to cry." Heather Duke responded gleefully. Veronica ran out of the class to follow Heather. She was running around the halls, looking for Heather, when she ran into JD, she ran straight into his arms. "Going somewhere cowgirl?" JD asked her. "I'm looking for Heather" Veronica said. "Have you thought anymore about my plan?" JD asked. "Come on JD, don't you think that's a bit rich? My Bonnie and Clyde days are over." "Don't you get it? It will just be a joke, like that first day in the cafeteria." Veronica looked at him blankly. "what could go wrong with a joke!" JD said. He knew she'd come around. "Come on, lets go to my place." JD said. Veronica went with JD back to his place. They were sitting on JD's bed talking that night, when Veronica decided to play the prank. She picked up the phone, and rang Kurt Kelly. "Hi Kurt, hi this is Veronica Sawyer, Yeah I didn't expect to be calling either, I just guess my emotions took over. I was wondering if you wanted all those things you've been saying to really happen? It's always been a fantasy of mine to have two guys at once. Sure, you can write to Penthouse Forum. In the woods behind the school. At dawn. Don't forget Ram!" She hung up the phone, and couldn't stop laughing. "I don't get the point of me writing a suicide note when we'll just going to be shooting them with blanks." "We're not going to be using blanks this time." "You cant be serious." "Would I joke to you Veronica? These are Ich Luge bullets. My grandfather snared them back in WW2, they are like tranquilizers, that break the skin, enough to cause a little blood, but no real damage. We can hurt them, its just gonna look like they are dead. They will wake up in about 5 hours, and be as good as new, but by that time, we will have phoned the school newspaper, and someone will be photographing their bodies." "Hey that's a great idea. Are you sure they wont die?" "Veronica have I ever lied to you? I mean really!" The next morning, at dawn, Veronica was in the woods, and she had her gun. JD was waiting in the back ground, hiding behind some bushes. Kurt arrived, and minutes later, Ram followed. "Hey Veronica, wow! You look even better than you did the other night." Kurt said. "I'm glad you realized that you like me after all, Veronica. Do you want us to just rip our clothes off?" "Okkay guys, I want you to stand in the circles I've drawn and strip on the count of three." Veronica said. "Wow! I've dreamed about this moment for quite a while. Haven't you Kurt man!" Ram said, looking happily at Kurt. "Veronica you have no idea how long I've had a crush on you." Kurt said. "What about your clothes Veronica?" Ram asked. "Well, I was hoping you could rip them off for me sport!" Ram and Kurt were looking overly happy now, and Veronica began counting: "1,2......." JD jumped out from behind the trees. "THREE!" he yelled. He shot Ram dead. "Shoot him Veronica! Shoot him now!" Veronica shot at Kurt and missed. She began laughing and she couldn't stop. "I don't believe it, did you miss him completely?" JD said. "Yeah but it was worth it just to see the look on his face." Veronica replied hysterical. She still thought that it was just a joke. "I'll catch him" JD replied. JD went running after Kurt. Veronica stood there shocked. She realized that Ram was dead. 'Is this good? I don't know. Is this bad? Well now I know I'm going to jail. I can't believe I trusted JD. What was I thinking? How could I be so stupid?!' Veronica kept thinking about how she could get out of the situation. 'Well I haven't done murder, I've just been an accessory to the fact.' JD went running into the forest after Kurt, after about 5 minutes of running in circles, they arrived back where they started. Kurt was running straight towards Veronica. "Shoot him now!" JD yelled. Veronica looked blankly at JD, then at Kurt. Kurt was looking goofily at Veronica. Kurt was in shock. He couldn't believe what was happening. "SHOOT HIM NOW!" JD yelled. Veronica shut her eyes, and aimed her gun towards Kurt. She pulled the trigger . . . "you got him right between the eyes!" JD yelled. "Are they dead" Veronica asked. "Of course they're dead Veronica. You know they 're dead. How could you have believe me about it being a prank?" "What are we gonna do? We killed them?" "WE KILLED THEM VERONICA. DEAL WITH IT!" They planted the guns on Ram and Kurt's body. They put a bag including mineral water, and a postcard of Joan Crawford and the suicide note. Veronica and JD ran. Once they knew they were clear of the cops, they just sat in the car. They sat there for ages and ages. Veronica couldn't stop thinking about what they had just done. 'I killed someone. I don't believe it. How could I do such a thing. Heather was different. I didn't know we were doing that! I knew we were doing this though, and I believed JD. I believed JD that it was a joke. I know why I believed him. I believed him because I wanted to believe him. I can't believe that I could be so stupid. I wonder though, does this mean that I've reversed the wrong I did, in leaving Heather alone with them the other night? I mean, I hurt Heather, by leaving her alone with them, and now I've killed them. We've killed them! I wonder if this makes it okay. I wonder if this changes anything. I didn't want them dead. Who am I kidding? I didn't like them, although I did go on the double date with them, and I'm sure that wasn't just because of my friendship with Heather. I don't think I liked them. I knew what I was in for. I don't know what to do. I feel so guilty. I can't work out what's worse. Was it worse that I left Heather alone, or that I killed the offenders? I'm so confused. DO TWO WRONGS MAKE A RIGHT?' They drove to school. "I know what I'll do!" Veronica said, not thinking. "What about?" JD said. "I'll go see Pauline Flemming. She'll know what to do." Veronica said. And at that, she decided that she couldn't really make any decisions anymore. She had allowed JD to make all the decisions in the past, and she was going to continue to do so.
