We Love as One – Chapter 6

“I wonder who they’re sending.” Daniel asked softly in Sam’s ear as they stood in a line, waiting for their guests.

“It’s the Tok’ra IDC, sir.” Davis said into the mike.

“Open the iris.”

Sam stood braced between the general and Daniel as they waited for the Tok’ra. Wondering if her dad would be amongst the party, Sam scanned the faces of those who exited the wormhole.

As always, her father lead the party, followed by Malek, Korra, and another Tok’ra male whom Sam didn’t recognize. Sam smiled brightly as her father swept her into a bear-hug and kissed her on the cheek.

“How are you, Sam?” He asked, peering into her eyes. Both he and Selmak noted that the dullness of her bright blue eyes was still present.

“I’m fine, dad.” Sam replied.

“Good, good.” Jacob turned to greet the others. “Daniel, Teal’c, George. Nice to see you again so soon.” He gestured to his fellow Tok’ra. “You guys already know Malek and Korra,” The two Tok’ra in question nodded their heads in greeting. Jacob clapped a hand on the shoulder of the last Tok’ra who was staring intently at Sam. “And this, this is Elias.”

All members of SG-1 noticed that Elias had been staring at Sam ever since he had exited the wormhole. Sam, herself, was feeling like a bug being dissected underneath a microscope and she grew uncomfortable to have this Tok’ra staring at her, unblinking.

She assessed him quickly, noting that he was taller than she, about Teal’c’s height. He had short black hair and grey eyes, not like Martouf’s blue-grey, but more of a stone-grey color. He stood silently throughout the introductions and Sam noticed that Malek and Korra knew Elias was staring at her, but made no move to correct him.

“Well, how about we take this up to the briefing room.” General Hammond suggested, leading the way, followed by Jacob, who cast an anxious look back at his daughter. Malek and Korra, after glancing at both Elias and Sam, exchanged a look and left. Daniel and Teal’c both waited for Sam to move and when she did, she was intercepted by Elias who held out a hand to touch her gently on the arm.

As Sam looked at him questioningly with the rest of SG-1 looking on, Elias said, “It is nice to meet you, Major Carter. I have heard much about you.” He looked into her eyes and he relaxed as he saw her relax slightly, giving him a welcoming smile and nod.

“It’s good to meet you too Elias.” She wondered what he meant by hearing so much about her, but figured her dad must’ve rambled about her. She gestured for Elias to walk with her to the briefing room, followed by a curious Daniel and a silent observing Teal’c.

Once they were all seated, Sam sitting on the right of the general and facing her father. Oddly enough, Elias had chosen to sit next to her and although he didn’t say anything, Sam felt like he was paying more attention to her than he was to anything else. She was extremely uncomfortable. She just wished she knew why.

As the Tok’ra gave further information and a plan was outlined such as what equipment was to be used, the meeting soon came to an end with SG-1 getting ready to gear up.

The group broke up, Daniel and Teal’c getting first dibs on the change room, leaving Sam to head down to the infirmary, Tok’ra in tow.

Walking along, Sam discretely pulled her father aside and asked softly, “Hey dad, I don’t know if I’m imagining this, but is there some reason why Elias keeps staring at me?”

Jacob swallowed and affected an innocent look. “He has? I hadn’t noticed. Maybe it’s because he’s heard so much about SG-1 and you from me since I tend to ramble, that’s he just trying to put a face to the name.”

Elias, walking in between Jacob and Samantha (he couldn’t call her Major Carter being so influenced by Lantash) in the front and Malek and Korra walking in back of him. With his highly-developed hearing, he could perfectly make out Samantha’s question.

<Look at what you’ve done, Elias. Your staring has made her uncomfortable.> Lantash scolded, but couldn’t over the fact that the woman he loved was walking a few feet in front of him.

(I am sorry for making her feel that way, Lantash, but I could not help it. You were not making things easier by your earlier feelings and thoughts.) Elias said, contrite.

“Hey, Sammy, where’s the colonel?” Jacob asked, changing the subject.

Sam laughed lightly, unconsciously making both Elias and Lantash stop their conversation and focus their attention back on the blonde-haired woman. “We’ll probably see him in the infirmary. He was injured awhile back on one of our missions where the natives were a little hostile. He’s sulking and when he hears about us going off-world, he’s bound to get just a little more grumpier.”

<This is excellent news. O’Neil will not be coming along with us.> Lantash rejoiced quietly.

(This is a good thing?) Elias inquired.

<I would rather be in the presence of Anise than in the company of O’Neil. That should say something. The man is loud, obnoxious, insulting, arrogant, overbearing->

(Okay Lantash, I understand you do not like him.) Elias said amused as he followed Samantha and Jacob into the ‘infirmary.’

“So I guess that means you’re in charge, huh, Sammy?” Jacob beamed at his daughter.

Sam grinned as she hopped up on one of the infirmary beds, waving to Janet. “Looks like it.”

“Carter!” Colonel O’Neil stage-whispered, gesturing frantically to Janet. “Get me out of here!”

Janet tossed a look over her shoulder at the colonel before walking up and taking care of her new arrivals.
