We Love as One – Chapter 7

He had been awake for the greater part of the day, half-heartedly nibbling on the fruit that his hosts had provided for him as he stared unblinkingly at the dormant Chappa’ai. He had no idea what he was going to do.

Since his resurrection, his mind had been in a state of chaos and what he felt most disturbed at was the utter silence in his mind. He felt so different. He pulled out the letter his friend had shoved into his pocket and read the contents again.

The Tok’ra had managed to remove Lantash and place him in recovery. According to this note, Lantash was to be blended today with a new host named Elias. Martouf missed Lantash and it would feel extremely odd to see this Elias and know that Lantash was within him.

Martouf glanced at the note again. The High Council had made the decision to send his body to Anise for study on her za’tarc research and that was one thing that made him immensely thankful for to Jacob. Martouf had disagreed with Anise on many things, her scientific methods being one of them. He felt she had no regard for respecting human life, but looked at everyone, Tok’ra included, as experiments. He shuddered to think what she would’ve done to him.

The rest of the note gave Martouf the location of the present Tok’ra base that Jacob could be found at and that he had indeed gone against the High Council in Martouf’s resurrection. Martouf smiled at the thought of one of his closest friends. He had promised long ago to someone that he would look after Jacob as if he were his own father; Jacob in turn, had decided to look after Martouf as he would a son. Giving him advice, teaching him Tau’ri slang and culture and advising him of what to about his growing feelings for Samantha.

Martouf read the note. Jacob had written that he would be visiting Samantha and going on a mission with SG-1 today. The thought of seeing Samantha made Martouf want to run to the Chappa’ai and catch Jacob before he left, wanting to go along. But Martouf knew that would’ve been impossible, for the moment he stepped into the Tok’ra base, he would be treated like a hostile since they had no idea where he had been and how he’d been revived. A sarcophagus would be the most likely answer, followed by thoughts of the Goa’uld. He’d then be interrogated for hours and held until they started to trust him again. Maybe he’d be better off trying to reach the Tau’ri and Samantha again.

“You are troubled, Martouf of the Tok’ra.” A young male’s voice stated behind Martouf. He turned to see one of his hosts, Nafrayu, standing quietly behind him.

“I am troubled. There are so many questions that I need to sort out and have answered. I am unsure of my position in life. Will I return to being a Tok’ra or perhaps pursuing a relationship or…” Martouf broke and sighed.

“In the coming days, much will need to be decided.” Nafrayu said gently. He felt the turbulence within this man and Nafrayu sought to help him, but knew that the ways of the Nox was never to interfere with the affairs of others species. Since yesterday when the Nox had found Martouf’s dead body lying prone on the dais of the Stargate, they had recognized him as wearing a Tok’ra uniform and taken him to be revived. Martouf had spent much time alone, thinking and gathering his thoughts on what had happened during his absence.

“I must return to the Tok’ra and inform them of my return.” Martouf said tiredly, standing up. “They will keep me confined until they are certain that I am no threat to them. That is something I am not looking forward to.”

“Do you wish to leave now through the doorway, Martouf?” Nafrayu asked.

Martouf stared at the Chappa’ai, but was really lost in his thoughts, preparing himself for the days ahead. “Yes, I must return immediately.”

To the Tok’ra, he thought. To his past life and to Samantha. But first, he had to come up with a cover story.
