The Tollassy family was given a patent of nobility before the year 1754. According to Bela Kempelen's book on Hungarian noble families, the family was confirmed to be noble before the 1754-55 census of Hungary. At the time, the family was living in Gomor (now Gemer) County in Slovakia. There was a family by the same name living in Szatmor County, Hungary, which is now Satu-Mare County, Romania. The Kempelen book lists a reference for the information from Gemer as Forgon, which is the book Gomor-Kishont Varmegye Nemes Csaladi (Noble Families of the Gomor-Kishont County) by Dr. Mihaly Forgon. In it, there is the following text on page 652: "In 1754, there was Paul Tollassy in the list of the nobles of Kishont (Rimavska Sobota) and John and George belonged to the nobles of Roznava. In one document, there is the following reference: George, the son of the Roznava resident John Tollassy acquired at the druggist Moses Schmidt the druggist skills and then went to Maros-Vasarhely for druggist business. The county administration issued for him in 1784 a nobility certificate." Maros-Vasarhely was in Maros-Torday County, Hungary. Variations of the Tollassy surname in both Europe and America include Tollasy, Tolassy, Tolasy, Tollassi, Tollasi, Tolassi, Tolasi, Tolosi, Tallassy, Talazy, Tallasi, Talassi, Talasi, Tulassy, Dullassy, Dulassy, Dulacy, Kulassy, Gyulassy, and Gulyas, among others.
Gyorgy married Zsuzsanna BELES.
Zsuzsanna's surname is spelled as "Beles" on her son's baptismal record, but it may have been "Balazs," "Ballas," or a similar name. Roznava was a Hungarian town with a sizeable Slovak minority. Because of that ethnic diversity, the same surname was often spelled differently depending on the linguistic background of the scribe. The "Balazs" and "Ballas" surnames appear frequently in the church registers of Roznava, along with names such as "Balasz" and "Belles."
Gyorgy and Zsuzsanna had the following children:
+ 2 M i Gyorgy TOLLASSY was christened on 31 Mar 1800. He died on 2 Apr 1864.
