Chapter 3

As the night wore on, the happiness that I had felt after finding Spot subsided, as I suddenly realized that the whole night almost, he'd been gone outside, with Cupcake, totally forgetting about me. I soon went up to bed, only to find Jessamyn and Snipeshooter, holding onto each other. I thought better of this, and went up the fire escape onto the roof, where I found Snitch, sitting down, flicking stones off the side of the building.

I walked over to him, and sat down, pulling my knees up to my chin to protect myself from the cold winds. Snitch continued tossing stones, until finally, he spoke, in a hushed whisper. "Each, I need help. Dere's dis goil I like, but I don' know if she likes me, what should I do?" He suddenly asked, looking deep into my eyes. I sighed, and cocked my head to the side, thinking about his question.

"Tell her you like her, and hopefully, she'll feel the same way or if she doesn't, be all nice and talkative to her, and she's bound to fall for your charm," I playfully punched Snitch in the arm, his cute laughter breaking the silence. Over the past couple of days, I'd gotten this weird pain in my stomach whenever I saw Snitch, and finally, I figured out what it meant. I was shocked, never, have I ever let myself like someone as freely as I liked him. I decided to give it a few more weeks, and we continued talking well into the night, until we saw the sun coming up, lighting up the sky with pinks and reds, making a beautiful picture.

We quietly headed back downstairs, as not to wake the newsies, who we thought we still sleeping. Instead, they were wide awake, talking about Spot and Cupcake, who supposedly didn't come home last night from their walk. I laughed at this, before heading into the bathroom to wash up. It was a normal newspaper day, I sold almost all of my newspapers, and was heading back early, when I ran into Spot, with who else but Cupcake clinging onto his arm.

"Hey Enchantin', how' it goin'? You'se done selling' papes? Man, it's so good ta have ya back wid me. I'se missed ya mo' dan ya know," He looped his arm, signaling for me to grab on. I smiled sweetly at him, looking at Cupcake before grabbing hold of his arm, and heading over to Tibby's for some lunch. When we reached Tibby's, we were greeted by Twilight and Blink, holding hands. I grinned at her, before heading over to where she and Blink sat.

"Wow, finally you two get together. Blink, it took you weeks to get with her!" I didn't really know Twilight all that much, but she's that kind of person that you feel like you know forever. In fact, I hadn't even spoken to her, until today, which quite surprised me. Twilight laughed, and squeezed Blink's hand. Blink had told me, the week that I'd been with them, that he's had his eyes on Twilight for some time now, but was scared she didn't like him. I told him to do what he felt was right, and he did. Suddenly a pair of hands covered my eyes, and I couldn't see. "Ummm, Spot?" the hands released me, and turned around to find Spot behind me. I laughed, and playfully punched him in the arm, before sitting down on the empty seat across from Twilight and Blink. Spot sat down next to me, and picked up a menu. "Spottier, dahlin', you'se supposed ta wait fo' me. Why didn' ya?" Cupcake pushed Spot over, and sat down, taking his hand violently. She glared at me, making sure Spot didn't see. I looked at her, and burst out laughing. She glared at me one more time, before focusing all her attention on Spot.

"Hey Enchantin', cain I talk ta ya real quick," I looked across the room to Snitch, who had called my name. I squeezed my way through Cupcake and Spot, and made my way over to where Snitch sat alone. He looked lovely, I guess because his hair was neater than usual.

"What's it about, Snitch?" I asked, taking a sip of his drink. He looked very nervous, keeping his eyes contact on his food, which he hadn't eaten much of.

"Enchantin', I'se liked ya since ya came ta da Lodgin' House, an' I was wonderin' if ya would be me goil?" He blushed wildly, trying to hide his face so I couldn't see. Snitch was really shy when it came to girls, and I was quite surprised, he had the guts to ask me to be his girl. I smiled, and took his hand from across the table. His eyes help a pleading that I couldn't ignore, and I nodded, a smile over coming my face.

"Yes Snitch, I'll be your girl!" He smiled, and got up to sit next to me in the booth. His cheeks we bright red, but he didn't seem to notice as he and I began talking. Suddenly, we saw a shadow fall over us, and we looked up. Jack had seen everything, and was wondering what was going on. When Snitch told him, his eyes lighted up, and he playfully slapped Snitch on the back of his head.

"Finally Snitch, you'se asked er ta be yo' goil. I didn' know whetha you'se was goin' ta do it or not," Jack sat down from across from us, still smiling. I looked across the room at Spot and Cupcake, who were still sitting by Twilight and Blink. Cupcake saw me looking at them, and smiled wickedly, before turning to Spot, and kissing him on the lips. I turned away, and took Snitch's hand. I cuddled up next to him, and closed my eyes, listening to the rythmic beating of his heart. Jack took this as a sign to leave, and walked over to Mush and Race, who were arguing about which horse to bet on.

"Snitch, should we head back to the lodging house now? Everyone's leaving," he looked up, and saw all the newsies leaving. He nodded, and we quietly made our way to the door, holding hands. All the newsies commented on us, and Snitch recieved many happy punches in the arm, congratulating him on his win. I laughed, not letting go of his hand. We made our way back to the Lodging House, where we went up to the roof, and talked until we saw the sun go down.
