Rabbit sat secluded in a corner. She was cold, hungry, and tired.
Snyder had locked Fiona in a different cell down the hall. Rabbit's cell didn't have any
windows, it was deep in the back of the basement, dark and dreary. She closed her eyes
and rested her forehead on her knees.
She had gotten Sarah's clothes all dirty. She clapped her hands to her ears to block out
Fiona's yelling and banging.
"No, No, No...Jack..." She whispered.
**********
"Get me outta here!" Fiona screamed. She paced back and forth in her cell. Her and
Rabbit were the only two locked in the basement.
A guard appeared and slide a tray of porriage, and water, in a small slot in the middle of
the door.
Fiona picked up the tin cup and threw it as hard as she could at the bars. The guard turned
around angrily.
"You shouldn't have done that. That's all the water your getting for the next six months."
He snickered. Fiona lunged at the bars.
"I have a right to a trial, damnit! I have rights!" The guard laughed.
"Rights? What rights you Irish shit?Your a woman, you don't deserve rights!" The guard
smirked.
"Your not even an American citizen!" Fiona spit at the guard. He wiped away the saliva
from his face.
"I am so an American, I have papers! You damn yankee, fuck!" The guard opened the cell
door and grabbed Fiona by the hair.
"Oww!" She screamed. The guard lowered his frace down to hers.
"Insult me again, I dare you!" Fiona kicked him in the groin, and ran. She grabbed his
keys and locked him in the cell.
"Rabbit! RABBIT!" Fiona screamed, running around the basement.
"Over here, Fiona!" Rabbit yelled running over to the bars. Fiona ran over to her.
"RABBIT!!Are you alright? You look like hell." Rabbit smiled at Fiona's conern, and
critisim. She nodded.
"Aye, Fiona. I'm fine." Fiona nodded, and unlocked the door. She grabbed Rabbit's arm
before the cell door was completely open.
"How do we get out of here?" Rabbit asked looking around for an exit. They ran up three
flights of stairs.
"There a door." Fiona said pointing. They ran towards it. Fiona body slammed it, before
she could turn the knob, and fell when it opened. Rabbit helped her up.
"The roof! We're t'ree stories up." Rabbit said and walked to the side.
"Jump." Fiona said sarcastically. Rabbit looked at her.
"I think we've had enough jumping, off of things, Fiona." Rabbit said sternly. Fiona
laughed.
"It was a joke."
"Stay where you are!" Snyder said fiercly from behind them. Rabbit and Fiona looked at
each other and slowly turned around.
Snyder, stood rooted, holding a revolver. The guard Fiona locked up and Sargent Miles
stood behind him.
"I get the red head." The guard said with an evil smile. Fiona took a step on the ledge.
"Get away from me, I'll jump!" Rabbit's heart jumped into her throat.
"Fiona..."She said quietly. Snyder looked at Miles.
"Hobby, Miles..." Snyder said looking at Fiona cautiously. The guard, Hobby, slowly
edged his way to Fiona.
Miles walked over and grabbed Rabbit's elbow. He jerked her to him and held a gun up to
her temple.
"Either you get off that ledge, or you say bye to your sister!" Rabbit started to wimper.
Miles jerked her, and she started to cry.
"Ahh!" She screamed when he grabbed her hair. Fiona's heart pounded, and she stepped
off the ledge. Hobby grabbed Fiona, with little effort.
"I have a special job for you, Ireland." He said harshly in her ear. Fiona looked over at
Rabbit. Miles had her hands behind her back, but the gun was back in the holster. Rabbit
looked over at Fiona, who looked away.
Snyder led them back down to their cells.

"Easy, fellas, easy." Jack whispered as David, Spot, Blink, Mush, and Race lowered him
over the side of the refuge.
"We're lowerin' you as easy as we can!" Race whispered harshly. Spot slapped the back of
his head.
"Stop complainin'!" He scolded. Jack knocked on a window to the girls room.
A girl by the name of Felicia, opened the window.
"Yes?" She asked.
"Hey, you got two new girls in here. They're Irish, sisters. Rabbit and Fiona." Felicia
shook her head.
"No, sorry. They ain't in here. They tried to escape last night. Snyder sent them to an
orphanage up north." Jack's face grew pale.
"What! When! When did they leave?"
"This morning. The guard Hobby, took Fiona though. She ain't with Rabbit." Jack's face
became green.
"Wait, she ain't with Rabbit?" Felicia shook her head. Jack looked up at the roof. Spot
and Dave were looking over at Jack.
"What? Jack, what is it?" Dave asked. Jack held his hand up, waving for him to shut up.
"Where is Fiona?"
"Hobby took her to...to...hey, Mirror, where'd they take Ireland?" Felicia yelled back to
one of the girls in the room.
"Uhh, he took her to some sort of "gathering". With a bunch of his pervert guard friends."
Mirror walked over to the window.
"He said he had some business to take care of. Fiona...hmm" Mirror chuckled alittle.
"Fiona, locked him up last night. He tried something on her and she did more than he
wanted. Her and Rabbit ran up to the roof. Fiona was going to jump, but Miles held
Rabbit at gun point and Fiona surrendered..."
"Rabbit was held at gun point!!" Jack interrupted. Mirror nodded.
"They took Rabbit to an Orphanage, and Fiona is with a rapest? Great." Jack said, and sat
on the window ledge.
"Do you know where either one of them is?" Jack asked.
"Rabbit is in Buffalo, but I don't know where Ireland is." Mirror said. Jack nodded.
"Thanks." He pulled on the rope and the boys started to haul him up.
"Yeah, see ya."
**********
"What they say Jacky Boy? Where are they?" Spot asked crossing his arms across his
chest.
"Yeah Jack, took ya long enough. What they say?" Blink asked. Jack looked at Spot.
"They ain't here." Jack said coldly.
"What!" Race asked in disbelief. Mush and Blink said the same.
"Where'd they go?" Dave asked.
"One of the guards took Fiona somewhere. Felicia, said he had business to attend. A
"gathering" with a couple of his friends. And they took Rabbit to Buffalo this morning...to
an orphanage." Spot threw his fists down in anger. If there was something for him to hit,
he would have hit it.
"Appearently, Fiona had locked up this guard, Hobby, last night, and then her and Rabbit
tried to escape. They ran up to the roof, where Fiona threatened to jump. But she
surrendered, when this cop, Miles, held Rabbit at gun point. They're gone, and we don't
know where."
Every body looked at Spot and Jack.
Spot cracked his knuckles. He had his back turned to every body. Jack looked at him.
"Spot?" He asked cautiously. Spot was silent. His anger boiled, temper flared.
"Spot, hey? What?" Dave asked. Spot turned around. Every body looked at him.
"Spot what is it?" Jack asked standing up.
**********
"This is going to be fun! Right, Ireland? Your going to love it. I promise." Hobby said
with a devilish grin. He traced the collar of Fiona's shirt with his fingertips. She jerked
away.
"Get off of me you fagat!" She said through clenched teeth. Hobby back handed her
across the face.
"Don't you ever talk back to me!" He grabbed Fiona's hair.
"Now come on!" He growled and pulled her out of the carriage.
"Ah haa." Fiona gasped and reached for her hair.
**********
"Now, you are here, to work." Sue, threw Rabbit a dust rag.
"You want to make money before you go back to the Orphanage, than you clean." Rabbit
sighed. She got down on her hands and knees and started to wipe the floor.
"I want it Spotless, got that?" Sue asked Sharply. Rabbit nodded.
"Who would name their child, Rabbit?" Sue asked with a laugh. Rabbit looked at Sue
threw her eyelashes.
"It's not my name. It's a nick name!" Rabbit said defensivly.
"Oh really? Then what is your fist name? Bunny?" Rabbit stood up.
"No, it's Eibhlin." Rabbit threw the cloth in Sue's face.
"Make fun of me, eh? Clean your own damn house!" Miles walked over to Rabbit and
handcuffed her.
"I guess you'll just have to stay in the Orphanage all day, until your adopted, but I don't
know when that will be." Miles smiled and escorted Rabbit out of Sue's mansion.

"Alright. Spot and Me are going to Jersey. Mush, Kid Blink, you boys go to
Pennsylvanina, Bumlets, Snipeshooter, Snoddy, Skittery, everybody...you get every
worker-newsies-what ever, you can in New York. We are getting these damn Irish sisters
back, if it kills us!'' Jack said.
All of Manhattan and Brooklyn were piled into the small Manhattan Newsboy Lodging
house.
Spot had a plan. He thought that if they get as many boys or girls from New Jeresy,
Pennsylvania, and New York together, they could get back Rabbit and Fiona. It sounded
really out of it, and almost no one wanted to go along with it. But then Jack brought up
the strike, and then every body was in.
"Alright, Jack! Let's go!" Spot said, trying to hide how eager he was.
"We'll see you boys and more in two days." Jack said, and every body left the lodging
house.
