Nowhere to Turn: Part 7
By: Echo
Over the next few days, things stayed about the same. Everyone got used to Frick and Psycho, except Spot and Jack. Finally, I decided to pay Rover a visit. I left Tibby's early and walked to Brooklyn. When I got to the docks, some one stepped in front of me. "Where do ya think yer goin'?"
I rolled my eyes. "Just move, I need to talk to Spot."
He shook his head and glared at me. "He don't wanna talk ta ya."
I glared back. "So? I don't care, he's gonna talk to me whether he likes it or not. So move!" When he shook his head, I pushed him out of the way and walked to the end of the pier. "Spot!"
He glared down at me from the post he was sitting on. (Echo: No, I wasn't glaring at me, although my fingers seem to like to think so.) "Whatta ya want?"
I sighed. "Conlon, get down here. I don't intend to talk to you while your on your stupid little thrown."
He hesitated before jumping down. "So?"
I tried to control my tempter. "Why can't you step down off your high horse and forget your reputation. Psycho isn't so bad! She just ran away and got involved with the wrong people. She made a mistake. You've done it to, we all have. You just have to give her a chance."
He shook his head. "No, she ain't worth it. Ya had yer chance ta back out, an ya lost it, so don't think I'll listen ta a word ya say."
I groaned. "Oh shut up! All of the other guys have accepted her! Why can't you just leave the past behind?!"
He glared at me. "Why should ya care what I think if I'm da only one dat don't like 'er?"
I rolled my eyes. "You aren't the only one. Jack doesn't like her."
He shrugged. "So?"
I sighed. "Hey, I don't like having you and Jack mad at me."
He pulled out his slingshot and started aiming it at a pelican. "It don't look dat way."
"Not everything is what it seems to be. It's usually a bad idea to judge anyone, or anything, by what it seems to be." I said as I glared at him and walked away.
The next night, Spot came by. I glared at him as he walked by me in the hall, but he just winked at me and joined a poker game with Psycho and Frick in the bunkroom. I smiled slightly and walked up onto the roof to think. When I got there Jack was staring out at the buildings. "Sorry, didn't know anyone else was up here. I guess I'll go." I said softly.
"Wait."
I turned around slowly, thinking my ears were playing tricks on me. "What?"
He glared at me. "Ya know, ya won't always be right. Things won't always turn out da way they did dis time. Ya can't trust everyone."
I rolled my eyes. "I don't trust everyone, I just had a feeling."
"Feelin's can be wrong. Why din't ya just listen ta me?!"
I glared at him. "What would have happened if I had listened to you?"
He clenched his teeth and looked away. "It ain't dat simple. What if ya get hurt cause a somethin' like dis?"
I frowned. "Then at least I took the chance when they could have ended up in trouble because I didn't try to help them."
He grabbed my shoulders. "It ain't up ta you ta save da woild an' everyone in it!"
I stepped back. "I'm not trying to save the world. I'm just trying to help out a little."
He glared at me. "Ya eva' think maybe it ain't yer problem?"
I fought back tears. "Then who's problem is it? If you see a leak in a sink, are you just supposed to wait for someone else to fix it? Sometimes people need help Jack. I won't ignore that."
"Yer still gonna get hurt."
I glared at him. "You aren't my father, don't try to tell me how to live my life."
"Yer wrong an' ya can't trust everyone-"
I clenched my teeth. "If you say that one more time..."
Jack glared at me. "Why are ya bein' so stubborn?!"
I glared back. "Why are you?!"
"Because I'm right!"
I threw my hands up in the air as I started walking to the fire escape. "That's it! I can't take it anymore!"
"Echo! Christina! Wait!" I kept walking but he grabbed my arm. "Will ya stop an' listen ta me?!"
I spun around and glared at him. "I've been listening to you long enough."
He started to say something, but shook his head and walked away.

Brian grabbed my arm as I walked out of the bunkroom. "How'd you get away from those guys?"
I smiled innocently. "Let's just say I can be very intimidating when I want to be."
He stared at me for a few seconds. (Echo: Another one of those typos. I don't know why my fingers insist on typing that people stare at themselves.) "Why did ya go with Red in the first place?"
I shrugged. "I ran away because my parents were suffocating me. Red just happened to be the first person I ran into, so I started going with him. At first he was an okay guy, but eventually he got to be a real asshole so I left."
He smiled. "Ya know, I think these guys are starting to like you."
I nodded. "Yeah, even Spot's starting to be half okay. It's about time too."
Echo walked over and started to say something to Psycho but then saw me. She glance at the two of us for a few seconds and then looked back toward the door to the room us girl's shared. "Uh, I think I'll leave you two alone."
Frick laughed. "Yeah Echo, you do that."
The End... and it's about time!
