Xi Nu History

"Eat, Rest, Dress, Progress...do it all and do it well."

Kenneth Carter-First Advisor of Xi Nu (Alpha Sigma 84)

Channing Bennet-"Coach Sacrifice"

On the first day of November nineteen hundred ninety one, eight illustrious young men ascended into the hub city of the Cumberland Plateau.  This was to mark the start of the first journey into Kappa Land at Tennessee Technical University.  These eight young men were:

Prime Evil Incipients:  May 22,1991

1) Kenneth Giles     "G-Spot"

2) Marcus Sales      "Sugar Cane"

3) David Lawson = *May he rest in Peace*

4) Corey Barnett      "Sweet Yo"

5) Phillip Hicks         "Socrates"

6) Keith Hamilton      "Born Winner"

7) Charles Harrington "WildStyle"

8) Parrish Monk         "NuManFrostbite"

The above men would be known as the "Prim Evil Incipients" of what would later become the Xi Nu of Kappa Alpha Psi.  However, upon their entry into Kappa Alpha Psi, they operated as a "Swing Chapter" under the charter of Lambda Iota of Kappa Alpha Psi which had previously been founded in the spring of 1981 by the "Golden Eleven"

They later gave birth to the following:

Second to comeDec 7, 1992

1) Earl Smith       "Nice Cream"

2) Carlos Floyd   "Snowman"

Triple Threat:  May 1, 1993

1) Maury Eaton     "Japan"

2) Joe Oggs           "Finessee"

3) Andre Monroe   "Thoroughly Konvinced"

1) Ken Johnson           "Big E. Smalls"

2) Darwin Henderson   "D-Light"

3) Albert Collins           "Al Kapon"

4) Rashard Smith          "Sugar Free"

5) Terry Farris              "Tasters Choice"

The Brothers of the Xi Nu of Kappa Alpha Psi had managed to distinguish themselves as a cut above the rest both on campus and in the community.  The brothers of the Xi Nu of Kappa Alpha Psi made it a point to do everything in keeping with their motto....."Eat, Rest, Dress and Progress...Do it all and do it well"

Their social events and functions had become known as the place to be throughout the area drawing African American students and professionals from near and far.  Visiting brothers and guests could always count on Xi Nu to "Give you what you came here for and leave you with a little bit more."  They continue to share this love with visiting brothers and guests to this day.

Always being mindful of the need to inspire service in the public interest, the brothers of the chapter also routinely made a point of being seen in the community by mentoring children, spending time at senior citizen facilities and actively supporting the efforts of a local church.  On campus they sponsored Black History contests, provided book scholarships, and supported efforts of  the Tennessee Technological University's Black Cultural Center.  They remain mindful to this day of their and the Fraternities stated objectives in the community.

In the spring of 1994, the Xi Nu of Kappa Alpha Psi then with approximately with 13 brothers on campus found itself unable to make brothers due to a 2-year moratorium throughout all of Kappa Alpha Psi on membership intake......"The Dark Years".....During the Dark Years the chapter graduated substantially all of it's brothers causing the chapter to become inactive.  At the end of the moratorium in 1996, because of the lack of the requisite number of members to reactivate, the chapter remained somewhat dormant until the spring of 2002 with the coming of:

**The Lazarus Project** Spring 2k2

2) Tony Akridge   "Sylkk"

4) Careem McBean "Mr. Kleen"

G-Unit Sp 2k4

1) Tony Ivery    "Kuite Storm" (Cumberland University)

2) Lance Bond   "Kamakazi"

3) Jay Murrell     "Konkrete"

The brothers of Xi Nu continue to climb ladders of achievement as they unite, grow and graduate men of culture, patriotism and honor in engineering, business, the arts and all other fields of human endeavor.  Each seeks to reach back in help of those behind him, to push forward in support of those in front of him and to boldly serve as the tip of the sword cutting new paths where need be.  Just as good men have served in the Xi Nu in the past and good men dwell in the Xi Nu now.  Surely good men shall come in the future.
