The land below is flat and semi arid and spotted with

piñon and ponderosa pines as far as I could see.

Above the Coconino Plateau

We flew over the Coconino Plateau west of Grand Canyon village. Directly ahead is the South Rim. The North Rim is in the distance.

We flew at an altitude of about 8,000 feet. South Rim elevations range from 6,650 to 7,450 feet. The North Rim is 1,000 feet higher and the Canyon is one mile deep.
