Hey Survivor/Savage Garden/38 Special fans! This is Diane, Jamie's daughter, writing to you before I run off and play some guitar and attempt to become cool. I just wanted to give a quick review of a concert I saw in Chicago this previous Saturday. By the way, thanks Mom for letting me talk on your page. BTW - 38 Special was rockin last night!!

Anyway, Hard Rock Cafe sponsors and promotes a concert every year entitled the Hard Rock Rockfest. This year it was held in Chicago and I received 2 complimentary tickets to the event. Figuring that a 2-3 hour drive wasn't a big deal, I decided I'd attend. With bands that I'd only dream of seeing live scheduled to play, I was psyched.

The drive was alright, could have been worse, but freeway jams are quite irritating. I love standstill traffic on the freeway. NOT. But, I just rolled down the windows and Lisa (my friend who came with me) and I turned up the stereo and made the best of our time.

We arrived during Tonic's set - and I've seen Tonic once before opening for Third Eye Blind. I love the band, they've got an awesome style. They were even doing a quick signing at a booth later on, so we waited for an hour and briefly met them.

Waiting. We did a lot of that. Sitting on gravel. Even more of that. Lisa and I "stonewashed" our jeans with the gravel. We built gravelcastles. We buried each others feet. And legs. We were damn sick of waiting.

We didn't feel like standing in front of the stage (and blowing our ears out) for 3+ hours so we parked in gravel in front of a monitor. We had a good view -- facial expressions and whatnot of the band members - but we were so far from the primary speakers there was a delay in the sound from the picture we saw. It was funny to see mouths move then a few seconds later finally hear what they say...

Metallica headlined it and man, they rock. I was just watching Kirk Hammet (the lead guitarist) rock out and I realized how bad I am at guitar! lol. It was a great show, they were so right on, and they would look into the audience and you could tell they appreciate their fans. Great experience. I loved it.

Fireworks followed the end of Metallica's set and it was a lovely touch. I walked out with a smile until I waited for an hour on the same street in another traffic jam. Good old Chi-town. Gotta love it.

Till the next concert.

Diane
