Lesson plan by Jamie Fein

Day 10

What’s on for today:

Talk about the repetition of images and words. Play with the repetition and have the students write a poem in a rondel prime poetry pattern which plays with repetition of lines and images.

What to do:

  1. Students will read pages 131-135 standing up
  2. Each time the students come across an image or word referring to light/ beauty they will stamp
  3. Each time the students come across an image of dark/ dead beauty they will clap
  4. Teacher will then explain what a rondel prime poem is
  5. Teacher will hand out an example of a rondel poem
  6.  Students will write their own rondel poem in Miranda’s voice based on pages 131-135.  The rondel could be based on her feelings, or what is happening, the imagery.  Allow the students to be creative with it

Homework:

Finish the Rondel Prime poem.  Read pages 140-170 focus on Miranda’s character as an indivual

The class was a success if:

-         The students were able to pick out the imagery

-         The students were able to comprehend the concept of a Rondel poem

-         Students were able to apply the text and write it in Miranda’s voice through the Rondel poem
