Lesson plan by Jamie Fein
Day 12
What’s on for today:
class will read their rondel prime poems and talk about the process of writing them. Then class will discuss the idea of idealization. Compare Ferdinand’s idealization of Miranda to a sonnet 130 by William Shakespeare
What to do:
1) each student will read their rondel prime poem
2) Then the class will discuss how Ferdinand idealizes Miranda and where it can be seen in the text
3) Students will get a handout of sonnet 130 by William Shakespeare and read it out loud
4) Students will discuss the images, the language, and what the author is saying about idealization, does perfection exist? Why does the author love the object of affection in the sonnet?
5) Students will then compare Ferdinand’s view on Miranda and Shakespeare’s view to his love in the sonnet.
6) Then each student will write one poetic line of REAL beauty
7) Then the class will go around the room and read their one line of Real Beauty, while one student is the recorder in the class, students will then have their own class poem about real love
Homework:
Read 190-210 compare Miranda’s idea of what is nasty and Ferdinand’s idea of what is nasty
The
class was a success if:
-The rondel prime poems were well written and well thought out
- Students were able to compare idealized love and real love
-Students were able to create
their own line of poetry that represented real love
