Day 17

 

 

 

 

What’s on for today:

 

The class will examine Miranda’s need to live through Jazz music

 

What to do:

 

1)      Students will read 265-268 around the room reading a paragraph at a time

2)       Students will discuss Miranda’s turnaround of emotions, she wants to be sexual, be alive

3)      Discuss how Miranda’s need for her power as a woman, she doesn’t want to be innocent anymore

4)      Miranda describes Jazz music as having life, being powerful discuss those images

5)      Class will listen to a Jazz song

6)      As the students listen have them write down the images that the think of or adjectives that come to mind when the listen

7)      Have the students discuss their images and do they compare with Miranda’s description of how she should lead her life

 

 

Homework:

 

Read pages 285-the end, pick out a song that represents the emotions and images that are represented in the end of the novel 

 

The class was a success if :

 

-         students are able to relate the music to Miranda’s feelings

-         students are able to find their own music to represent the ending of the novel
