The Collector

Lesson plan by Jamie Fein

Day 7

What’s on for today:

Today we are going to read a grocery list of words and then we are going to read passages from The Collector.  I am then going to ask them to write everything word in the order that they remember it.  The focus is on how much credit do we give the narrator for speaking the truth.

What to do:

  1. The students will listen to the teacher read a list of words and be asked to pay attention to the words
  2. students will then read pages 52-56 each student will read a paragraph at a time
  3. The class will discuss the concept of beauty and how it does ex. Photograph, butterflies, darkness etc.
  4. Students will then be asked to write down all of the words that they remember from the list
  5. Teacher will explain that the same concept applies to Ferdinand and Miranda as narrators, do they really remember exactly what is being said or done, or are they making up their own truth?

Homework:

Read pg75-90

The class was a success:

- if the students understand that the language is not truth
