Whitney was a freshman point guard for the University of Alaska Lady Seawolves in 2003/04, playing an important part in their Great Alaska Shootout win, receiving "Player of the Game" honors against Divition I Mount St. Mary's. Then she took a year off to concentrate on her studies following by a transfer to Eastern Oregon University. She broke EOU's single game assist record with 14. EOU went to Nationals two years in a row (2006 and 2007). Whitney finished her regular season nationally ranked (NAIA Div. II) in both assist/turnover and assists. She was 3rd and 5th respectively. She finished first in the Cascade Collegiate Conference in assists/turnover ratio and 3rd in assists. She was an Honorable Mention for All Conference 2007 (Cascade Collegiate Conference). She was also selected as one of two girls to receive the Lund Champions of Character scholarshipand recei ved "Outstanding Player of the Year" for the Lady Mountaineers in 2007. During a practice at the beginning of their 2007/2008 season, she ruptured her achilles tendon during a practice which put her out for the season. She traveled with the team as an injured player. The Lady Mountaineers ended their season in first place again to earn a berth to Nationals for the 3rd year in a row.

2004-2005: Ninilchik Invitational Tournament All Tourney Team selection and All Sports Team. Tok Tournament 3 point contest winner
2005-2006: Sitka Tournament All Tourney Team selection. CIA Classic Tournament All Tourney Team selection (& team also took the Sportsmanship Trophy). Ninilchik Tournament - All Sports Team, Tournament MVP and 3 point champion. At the Regional Tournament she was the 3 point winner and was selected for the All Tournament and All Conference Teams. They were State Champs and she was selected for the All Tournament Team, All Sports Team, First Team All State, and got Player of the Game in the games against Galena and Point Hope
2006-2007: MVP and 3 point champion at the CIA Classic Tournament. All Tourney selection at the Nikiski Tip Off Tournament. All Tourney selection at the ACS Tournament. MVP and 3 point champ at the Ninilchik Invitational Tournament. MVP and All Conference selection at the Region III Tournament. At the State tournament, the team took 3rd after winning their first game against Selawik and then losing to Yakutat by 2 in the semi-final game to go on to win their final game against Galena to take 3rd place in the tourney. Krista was selected to the All Tournament Team, First Team All State and Player of the Game in the Selawik and Galena games. She was the 2nd highest scorer in the tournament after Player of the Year Heidi Espenshade of Yakutat. The team also took home the Sportsmanship Trophy. She was also awarded several medals at the Ninilchik banquet including MVP and Most Assists for the year.
