Monday evening: Sightings: 4 doe, 8-12 pigs, the usual flock of hen turkey that pretty much live at my feeder. Speaking of which I have yet to see a Tom or Jake this season. I'm getting kind of board watching the hens from 3:00 till almost 5:00. I say almost, because the feeder goes off again at that time. While the turkey are waiting for it to go off, about 5 till, I hear grunts, even with the wind. I look right toward the small creek and spot two piggies running toward the feeder. As soon as I get the gun up and ready there are 8-12 piggies at the feeder of all sizes and gender. I drop the biggest male. The piggies all run off, and the turkey act like nothing happened. I see a piggie right at small creek where the original was first sighted. No way could I have gotten a shot, he was hauling!!!! The feeder goes off and the turkey clean it all up except what is on the piggie. About 5-10 minutes after the blast, a doe shows up in the sandera. She is later joined with 3 others. I watch these closely, hoping to spot a buck looking to score. They wander off when they got close to the stand. Might have scented me with the strong wind. |

No RUT, No Horns, No Beards |
This is my third hunting trip this season. I got 2 stand sessions in, Monday evening and Tuesday morning. Conditions blew, (literally). The wind was around 20mph, temp 70 degrees with a full moon. I was pretty sure I would not see to much because of the wind and that turned out to be true. But there are just so many chances to go, and if I wait for perfect conditions, that equals not much hunting.........so, I seized the moment!!!! |
Camphouse or Penhouse??????? |
Tuesday morning: Sightings: lots of turkey, 1 doe Baby possum loves pig blood for breakfast!!!! |
Thoughts............. Hardly any horns to speak of so far??? No deer at the feeder??? No Jakes or Toms????? Tons of Piggies???? When is the RUT going to start???????????????????? |
Same pack of turkey hanging out as usual. A doe is spotted out right window by small creek. There have only been a hand full for deer spoted in this area, probably because they don't stop here, it is not baited. She was real calm despite the wind. She grazed for a few minutes before wandering off, Reset the times on my feeder to earler and later, hopefully getting more pigs and deer, instead of fating up turkey I can't even eat. |
