Monday evening: Sightings: 3 deer, 5 hen turkey. 5 hens hanging around feeder. Small 4 point shows up in sandera for about 30minutes. Other deer is spotted at right of sandera, close to stand in heavy brush for just a few seconds. Did not see the head?????? Just before I got out of the stand, saw 2 coyotes at back of sandera running back and forth across. Deer runs across sandera, saw the white of the tail, about where the coyotes were, but closer to the stand. In the sack for the night at 7:30, I'm going for 10hr of sleep and I need it!!!! |

DEER????? RUT???? |
Fourth trip, 2 stand sessions, Saturday evening and Sunday morning. It was windy Saturday, with a hard freeze that night. Half moon and clear, cold and no wind Sunday morning..............perfect. |
Tuesday morning: Sightings: 0 Deer, pack of pigs, 8 hens At dusk, see black shadows running toward feeder by small creek out right window, five minutes before the feeder goes off. Pull the gun up for a feeder shot and the pack is already there. Almost too dark and I had the moisture problem on the lens because of the cold. I could barely make out the piggies. I had to shoot now, because it don't take a pack long to clean up the buffet. Aim center pack and pull. They scatter and I watch them run back up the creek. At least one was stumbling through the brush grunting. Never found him. These guys are AMAZING. This new feed time was set just last week and it was already learned. They must run from feeder to feeder, BEORE THEY GO OFF, knowing all the times!!!!!!! The turkey are just as versatile. I noticed them after all the excitement from the piggies. This is normally way too early for them. I don't know if it was the shot or the sound of the feeder, or maybe both that got them going. I've seen both turkey and pigs at the feeder, but the turkey stay on the out skirts of the main action. |
Final thoughts: I'm a little bummed about the lack of deer action. During this time last year I was witnessing good deer activity and prime rut action. I bagged my first decent set of horns, for the season, when he was chasing a femal. Good Stuff and I"m missing it. |
