One day to hunt this week. Corned Buck road before dawn and then watched 8 falling stars in the perfectly clear, cold sky. Oh what a great day this is going to be! I set the Jeep up half way in the road, where I can see 250yds one direction and 400yds the other. Saw around 10 deer in the 400yd direction at the end where the bucks have been spotted, no Mr. Big Buck this time. 10:00 get a visitor. End of hunting.
I guess Bill gets lonely. Scott, help me out here. Wind picked up quite a bit. See only two deer the rest of the day and I never left this spot, I'm sure that was a mistake. One was a buck, he had good genes, unlike a bunch of the mutant ones I have been seeing. He will be nice some day, if he is one of the smart ones that makes it that long.
High light of the day is right at sundown, start hearing lots of piggy noises, on the other side of the fence, in the neighbors heavy brush. They have been smelling the corn all day and now they "think" it is feeding time. Two large boars run out right in front of me less than 20yds, they cross the road onto our side and into the creek they go. Probably should have shot one I saw for a few seconds on the bank. I should have plenty of chances, unless it gets dark on me. Hearing piggy noises all around in every direction, but mostly down the road. Sure enough there is a pack 150yd away in a frenzy at the corn. Getting really dark now. Walk down the road until I find a high spot to lay and shoot from. Boom, Splat, Squeal, Big dust cloud and lots of grunting. I feel better now. |
