The weather is perfect, freezing at night and 60 during the day, with a mild breeze. What's going to hurt though, is the full moon, as we shall see. Everyone will be feeding at night, much less during the day.
Left the family early Sunday morning. I think I've had enough of Christmas togetherness for a while. Corned big buck/piggie road and then got in my stand. First order of business was to drop a big hairy monster. Five doe show up in sendera. I watch them for over an hour, hoping for a rack, but nothing shows up. Pumped about the road I corned, so I snuck out of the stand at 8:15, and the doe didn't even notice. Saw nothing on the road all day, that's 8 hours of nothing!!! Heard piggies at the neighbor's feeder, but they never got out to the road. Pretty sure they knew the feeding will be all night with the full moon. Sure would have been nice to blast these guys after hanging out here all day. In bed at 8:30.
Next morning, back in the stand. 2 doe show up and leave quickly. Seven show later and hang out for hours. Young buck chases them around, looking clueless, and at one point, had them all bunched up at the stand end of the sendera, right below me. Too close for a pict at that point, I didn't want ot spook them, but got one a little later when the buck got shy and went to the brush.
Down for lunch at 10:30. Drove around looking for new places to road hunt, since mine is apparently no longer productive. Got a few ideas, but still thinking the stand is my best bet with all the doe. Back in the stand at noon and stay till 2:30 after not seeing a thing and having the wind pick up really good. Headed home........................ |
