Trading
Guide
Here is a trading guide
that I created to inform all of you on how to trade with me or
anyone else. There are just 5 simple
steps. Enjoy!
1.
How to make a list
1. The Hard Way
Type it all up by hand
2. The Cheater
Way
Ever been to Jamiroquai.com?
Well if you have you might have seen that "Jamiroquai Song Checklist
By Digital Insanity", which is basically a list of all Jamiroquai
songs. If you don't have the list, you can download it here.
Once you have the list you can edit it to become your own list,
just add extra things you have or take off the ones you don't have,
it saves a lot of time, but sadly not for the one who typed it all
up... (Tip : This is the method I used to make my
list, so I highly recommend it.)
3. The Cheater
Way 2
Do what was mentioned in #2 except with my
list.
4. The Winamp Way
Are you a Winamp user? You probably are, but even if you don't use
it, I'm sure it's probably somewhere on your computer. Open up Winamp
and load all the files you wish to include in your list. When you're
done, goto the bottom of the playlist box where all the buttons
are, click the fourth button, "Misc. Opts". A selection window will
come up. Click "Generate HTML Playlist". 2 seconds later and you'll
have a list magically made for you come up in your browser containing
all those songs in your playlist. In your browser make sure to save
the list (Click File - Save as).
5. The Tag Scanner
Way
Here's another simple way, download this program called Tag Scanner
here.
When downloaded, install it into the directory it suggests. This
program is very good at many things. It fixes ID3v1 & ID3v2
tags, allows extra ID3 tag features (picture, lyrics, etc..), and
of course exports folders to 3 different formats of lists (Excel
file, HTML file, CSV text file). To make your list, open the program,
select "Music Renamer" from the top panel, at the bottom where it
says "Path" with a field next to it, click "Browse" and select the
folder which contains the songs you want to have in the list. When
it finishes scanning the folder, click "List Maker" from the top
panel. Wait a few seconds while it loads your songs. At the bottom
you'll see a box that says "Filename, Artist, Title, Track, etc...".
Mark the ones you want to appear in the list by clicking on the
little boxes next to each one (Filename includes the name of your
file, Artist includes the artist's name found in the ID3 tag, Title
includes the title found in your ID3 tag, etc.. - I suggest you
either use "Filename", or "Title" for your list, and if you want
you can include "Time" or "Size" with it). When you decide what
you want to have in your list, goto the thing that says "Export
to.." and select which format you want your list to be in. (Excel
is good, but if you don't have Excel use HTML). A save box will
pop up, select where you want it to be saved and the name you want
to call it. Wait a few seconds for it to export, and when it's done
you can open your list up and see it.
2.
Finding trades
When your list is made,
if it's me you want to trade with : You should e-mail
me the list. If with other people : You should post it in the
"trades"
message board of the site's forum for all to see. Or if you don't
want to make a list, you can look through ones that are posted there
by other people (If any are there..). If you see anything you like,
you should try......
3.
Getting in contact with others
If it's me you want to
trade with : E-mail me
your list. If it's with other people : If you see some things you
like, post a message saying you would like to trade with them, including
your list, or what you are offering, and what you want from them.
Or if their e-mail address is shown, send them an e-mail saying
these things. If you both agree, you can then work on......
4.
Ways to trade
There are many different
ways to trade. Here is a list of the most common ways and a little
description :
Type |
Description |
File
sharing programs
(Winmx, Kazaa/Grokster, Soulseek, etc..) |
This is a good
way to trade if the trade is only for a couple of files, because
if you're both making giant trades, it will take many long
hours. Suggested for a 1-15 file
trade |
Chat
programs
(MSN Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, AIM,
ICQ, etc..) |
Chat programs
as well as some file sharing programs let you talk with the
person you're trading with, letting you get to know them,
but they transfer files very slowly. Suggested for a 1-10
file trade. |
Through
The Mail (Post) |
This is the best
way to trade. You just burn the cds and throw 'em in the mail
and you're done, no long hours of waiting for files to transfer.
This is also good for sending real factory pressed cds, the
person will actually have the real thing, not a bunch of audio
files. The one problem with this one is that you can't always
trust everyone over the net, so you should be cautious with
your home address. Suggested for any
amount of files. |
Pick a way that you both
agree on, and also that is catered to the amount of files you wish
to trade. Make sure that if you want to do a file sharing program
or chat program trade, you both use those programs. And always make
sure that you both know what will be happening, set up a date and
time for when to meet and know which programs you'll be using.
5.
You're done!
Once you're all done
with your file transferring or have just received your cds in the
mail, sit back and enjoy knowing that it was so easy to get what
you wanted.
