~ For Mom ~

It was thirty years ago
While walking in the snow
Or were you walking in the rain
When you felt that warning pain
To let you know that you were ready
To go through labor ~ strong and steady
To give me life when it was hard
Because you always had a job
To keep your children clothed and fed
Because your life was filled with dread

I know when I was growing up
That your life was truly tough
I remember tears you shed
I can see your empty bed
I see you sitting in the chair
Asking why life's so unfair

You always did the best you could
You always were so kind and good
Now that we are all grown up
You sometimes find it still is tough
Cause you'll never ever stop
To help us through our rough spots

For all these things I'm grateful
And I know that if you were able
You would fill a stranger's table
And cause your heart was good as gold
My memories of you are still untold.
