My girl is attending college and her classmates came up with an idea. To make a cook book and sell it. Normally, this would be cool except for one thing: They are too freaking busy to even cook, let alone make a cookbook! What's even funnier is they got everyone to print off a two recipe page with the text running sideways with a gap in the middle! It sounds to me like they are gonna photocopy the pages then just staple it together and call it a book. I can't wait to see what they are gonna charge for it!

To be honest, it sounds like a waste of precious time. A commodity that they don't have much of. Then I thought: What would people cook that have no time, (possibly) limited money, and probably no help from another person in the household. I know they will try to compile good recipes, but I doubt they will be making them on a daily basis.

I did some looking and found some recipes that are quick, cheap, and easy to make. I feel these will be closer to the real diet of these overworked students.

I have gathered them up and now I present:

Pasta with Spicy Cheese Sauce.
  • Follow the cooking directions on the box of macaroni and cheese dinner (Kraft dinner™ or similar) and add the proper ingredients.
  • Next, add a desired amount of hot sauce to the cooked KD™.

Serves one really starving student!

Toasted Peanut Bread with Fruit Topping.
  • Lightly toast 2 slices of your favorite bread
  • Next, cover one slice with spreadable ground peanuts (Can be found as Peanut butter)
  • Then, cover the other slice with spreadable fruit topping (can be found as Jam)
  • Mash the two coated sides together.
  • Enjoy with your favorite drink. (Milk is recommended)

Serves one.

Hollywood Style Corn.
  • Take one cup of dried, whole corn kernels and cook them covered pot with a bit of hot oil or air.
  • Once the popping has slowed down a bit, remove from heat to avoid burning.
  • Add salt and enjoy. (Butter can be added but should be avoided if you are doing alot of writing!)

Serves one crammer before exams.

Legumes in Maple Sauce with Rice.

  • Open one can of Heinz™ Maple style™ beans in sauce.
  • Add one cup of cooked rice.
  • Mix together and serve hot.

Fresh Garden Salad.

  • Select greens of your choice. (Not the gunk in the back of your fridge!)
  • Chop up a tomato, grate a carrot, or whatever else you like.
  • Add your choice of dressing.
  • Enjoy!

Moccachino Madness.

  • Prepare instant coffee in a mug by adding a small heaping teaspoon in hot water.
  • Add chocolate syrup. (Also add rum if your mid-term marks are lower then expected and you're really mad!)
  • Serve hot!

Western style steak and Potatoes.

  • Fry a small steak. (For vegetarians, substitute steak with tofu)
  • Cook some fries in the oven.
  • Serve with Ketchup salt and pepper.

Actually, all fun aside, the Beans and Rice is a complete meal and is great if you hike and camp. Most folks joke about it until they try it when they are worn out. Then they can't get enough of it. I usually just cook it before the hike and then just pack it along.
