The future is greedy!

Had telus for two years, and WHAT A PAIN!!

Problems got started when just within a month into my service, I had to use my computer to fax something to my office.Now I don't have a home business, or a fax machine. Just a computer program called: Norton Winfax.

A few days after, I start getting all these faxes. I find the telus number to report these (310-1000) and I started complaining.

Nothing was done about it. It seemed the more I complained, the more faxes I got. (Probably not true, but it sure felt like it.)

I had documented alot of the issues up until April 15, 2006 but then I pretty much gave up. Telus never resolved any of the issues. I waited till my girlfriend finished her temp position, and then when she moved back, we switched.

to stop unwanted faxes and to send warning letter about this number being a res 

number.  I did it for both numbers above.

Told Krista I'm getting faxes now all of a sudden.  She asked if I've faxed 

anything from my home number.  I say yes, I did.  Asked if I have a fax 

machine, I told her no, just a computer program.  She told me to do the above 

(*57, then report number to 310-1000)  they would get the problem resolved.

Spoke with Ram, No order for HI speed internet wasn't placed.  He will put it 

in again. Let him know I was not pleased with the extended wait.  Internet is getting 

more and more important for Job hunting.  MOst places only take email 

applications, etc.

Was supposed to have caller ID and call screen within 24 hr period.  (by Oct 

6th.)  Oct 7th and no Caller ID or Call Screen.

she told me both of the numbers are Sprint numbers, and they have 7 days to 
knock it off, and if at the end of the seven days, I'm still getting faxes, 
call Karen back (310-1000) and advise.

also, karen told me to keep receiving faxes to get the numbers to report.  I 
told her I'm using the computer to do this - I have installed a fax program.
I asked her to notate the account, and I would be also noting my documents on 
this advice.

Over 7 days now.  told jessica, she said all numbers from company are supposed 
to cease faxing.  the company is supposed to stop all together.  she said it 
will take 24 hrs (roughly) to process.  she asked if I'd be patient up to 
Friday, Nov 4th, and if company still a problem, call back.

Nothing was done about Digital contacts until today. 
Jessica called me back and told me no warning fax or phone call was made to 
digital contacts on oct 20, even though, person Krista, said she would do this. 
(Brandy told me on oct 28, krista was no longer there.)  no other info was 
typed into my file, log whatever on their database.  No comments on warning 
letter was done, or anything for that matter.

Jessica said she would notate my account, and put all the info in.  She said 
she'd call digital Contacts (try to contact them) and tell/ask them to stop.

Karen is sending complaint.
requested a number change.  I was told that wouldn't help.  I was told all 
numbers could be getting spammed, and I would be better off to keep working on solving this 
one then starting over.

April 15, 2006.

faxes still coming regardless on how much I complain - or what I do.  I really 
don't bother recording the numbers and times anymore. The Faxes have increased over the last year.
Nothing is really being done.  Faxes come at all hours of the day and night.  I now have to turn off 
my phone at night.

I'm still getting the same numbers trying to fax, and a host of new numbers.  I 
now believe that it was telus who sold my info about a fax coming from my phone 
number (I can't prove this, but I fee this is what happened.  Why else would Krista 
ask if I've faxed anything - What difference would it make unless someone/machine/system 
whatever recorded the fact that a fax came from my phone number and was sold 
to some marketing company.

I've allowed one of the faxes to be received by my computer.  they are sales on 
trips.  Spam Flyers.

Nothing is being done by Telus.  

Today being Feb 2nd, 2007, I've decided that once carol comes back to Calgary, 
we are gonna switch to Shaw Cable.  I'm gonna drop Telus altogether.

Spoke with Jared (yes, I had a rep named Jared!)
Told him I want to cancel ADSL.   He told me there was to be a 120.00 cancel 
fee.  Told him about all annoying faxes, and the other issues I've had that 
have never been resolved - Another was a bad ground/connection with the phone.  
I could faintly, and constantly hear a radio station on the phone while during 
conversations.

Jared the rep said he'd credit the charge for early cancellation.  
He said there was a RMA number for this, but he never gave it to me.

Alan.

Told him I'm still being billed for internet.  Asked Alan if Jared notated the 
account, he said yup.  Told him to cancel phone as of June 30, 2007.  alan 
confirmed that the number was ported on June 30, 3007.  Alan said internet 
should have been cancelled on May 31, 2007.

Also told alan about change in voicemail and not being able to delete fax 
messages after beep.  Told him about my bandwidth being cut back a bit, and 
told him about my cell phone calling area becoming smaller.
Told him they need to change.

one can only hope...

Telus called today (July 24, 2007) to get me back.  I complained about faxes, 
changes to the Voice mail, and slowly losing bandwidth.  Girl offered many 
things (started with: $50 off our current bill, then reduction in costs for 
phone, then reduction in internet, then both, then $300 gift card, then a 
computer.).  The items and offers kept piling up. she then offered me a 
garentee that there wouldn't be anymore faxes. 
 
I told her there's no way she could do that, because first of all, they should 
have done that in the first place - when I was complaining daily.  they didn't. 

Now they are willing to do it - too freaking late.

I flat out told her she could offer me 5 computers, and the whole package for 
free, and I wouldn't come back.  I basically told her someone high up at telus 
got greedy and now they are paying for it.  I told her Telus sold my number to 
be spammed by faxes and my number is still being passed on from spammer fax, to 
the next.  She Never corrected me on this.

I told her unless telus smartened up, I won't come back.  I told her they can't 
buy me that easy.

I last told her she needs to relay this complaint to someone with athority.

Nick stated that Telus is having issues with software.  need to work thru it.  
check bit rate on internet - Nick confirms no useage.

credits will be given once they get things settled.  Nick confirms also the 
cancelled dates, and that the pervious reps have documented the account.  I 
told nick that I also document times, dates and basically what's said.
I told him as long as they are working thru it, and our dates are both the 
same, I don't mind.  Just send me a final bill.

I'm STILL being billed by Telus.  OMG they are frickin' stupid.  Or maybe they 
think I'm stupid and I'll pay a bill for service that's been shut off since 
June.  I might try complaining to the CRTC.

 

Telemarketers and Phone/Fax Solicitation

Ok, I'm putting the rest in very fine print, because it's just not happening. I've noticed that the spam faxes come at all hours of the day or night, and also they can now block their numbers - or even better, put in BS numbers (e.g. 1-111-111-1111) I actually get this now sometimes. Or it just comes up "Private Name, Private Number".

I don't believe they actually bother to resolve the issue. I feel there are too many loopholes in the laws to really stop this crap. There is too much money to be made.

According to the FTC, there's supposed to be:

less dead air (ya know how they're in the call center, and they don't answer right away, but you can hear background - or worse.) I've gone and Yelled thru the phone just to see how long it takes. I've gotten up to 26 seconds.

A ban on blocked IDs - I'm getting more and more blocked ID's. comes up "Private Name, Private Number" or just a bunch of one's.

 

If you want to avoid problems like this, here's some things you can watch out for:

  • Canada Post Move cards - It's a release of information. They don't check who's asking by the way. Read the fine print on one of those next time you think of filling one out.
  • Coupon books - Next time a friend asks you to buy one for their kids from school, pass on it. They sell your number for Solicitation.
  • Call Your Local paper and ask them to take you off their list, if you are on.
  • Magazine subscriptions is also bad for this. Don't include your phone no. they don't need it, and they don't send the Magazine through your phone, do they?
  • Any Charity. Don't give them your phone number. They don't need it either. They will provide/sell it to other charities, and then onto other telemarketers.
  • DO NOT FAX FROM YOUR HOME NUMBER!! - If you need to start sending faxes from home, consider getting a second number. It doesn't have to be a business number or line, but just a second number. Tell them it's for your Teen.

Some of the things you should do when a telemarketer or an unwanted charity calls:

  • Get the caller's name, the company or charity and the time/date. (I usually interrupt very loudly, "Who from where?")
  • Ask this person, by name, to take your number off their list. At this point, they have to. Don't get into a discussion with them. They will usually try, " If I may ask, why?" Repeat your request, tell them not to call again and then hang up.
  • If they call you again, report them with the caller info to the CRTC.

In Canada, the complaint hotline for the CRTC is...

Don't bother... it doesn't do a damn thing. The CRTC 'Do Not Call' list is accessable by the same damn companies who telemarket you, spam fax, and the like.

 

I think what we need here is a class-action lawsuit!
