There are
hundreds of bands in Saskatchewan such as: Short Story, Moose Jaw; Far From
Ruin, Regina; Rexo Engine, Regina; Prevail; Moose Jaw; Means, Regina;
Numbers Hate Letters, Regina; At Birth Given Scars, Pilot Butte; Despistado,
Regina; Nailbomb Tragedy, Pilot Butte; Into Eternity, Regina; Ghosts of
Modern Man, Regina. But two very special bands. I am doing this report on,
Despistado and Into Eternity.
Indie or
independent music deos not really fallow any particular style. The only
thing that indie music really fallows is that the music in never hard rock
or metal. It is music that you would want to get up and dance.
Hardcore
music is very hard music. It is very close to being metal but there are
screams a death growls which make it a different style. Power metal and
Death metal have the same pattern in ways. They are very hard music but with
slight variations of guitar riffs and singing styles.
Despistado
may have been and were one of Regina’s most talented bands. They were Indie
or independent. The four bands members Dagen Harding, Joel Passmore, Brenan
Schwartz, and Leif Thorseth, were singed by Jade Tree Records. The band was
also nominated for the C.A.S.B.T. or the Canadian Artist Selected by You
award but could not receive it because of the terrible tragedy. The bands
break up. They officially broke up December 9th, 2004, but they
had to play many post break-up shows to pay back the booking agent for the
American tour, get out of debt for buying a tour van and pay the bands
managers. But there last official show was on February 5th, 2005,
at the University of Regina in the riddel center, with guests Numbers Hate
Letters and Short Story. Despistado was poised for stardom, T-Moble licensed
A Stirsticks Prediction for fifty thousand dollars (U.S.), but why did they
break up? Despistado broke at the very end of there American Tour. Passmore
admitted he was responsible for the bands break-up. Passmore stated, “Being
in a band is like being in a marriage. There’s responsibility
accountability. There has to be compromise, and when you don’t agree there
has to be a way you can tell someone to “ “off and the whole band
is not going to explode, and people aren’t going to start throwing punches.
Maybe we were the type of band that needed to go to marriage counselling,
like we were in an abusive relationship with each other. It just happened
that the product of that relationship from an artistic perspective was
really successful and had a lot of room to grow. Harding Stated, “I am
spectacle of the idea of success. You can be in a band that appears to have
all these opportunities for instance, but the opportunities are due to the
amount of debt your in. So what happens to be success may be something else.
The fifty thousand dollars Despistado got from the T-Moble has all been
spent. The band was forced to play post break-up shows to pay back the
booking agent got the American Tour, get out of debt for buying the van, and
pay the bands managers. Despistado has one full length CD “The People of
Their Verses” which is being released by Jade Tree Records on April 5th,
2005. Unfortunately the big questions is how for could they have gone will
for ever remain unanswered.
Into
Eternity is one of Regina’s most successful bands. They are hardcore, metal,
power metal, and death metal. The five bands members Adam Sagan, drummer;
Rob Doherty, death vocals/backing guitars; Tim Roth, death vocals/ guitars;
Troy Bleich, bass and Stu Bloak, lead locals. This band has had many
successes. They have three full length CD’s. Into Eternity released 1999,
Dead or Dreaming released 2001-2002, and there newly released CD Buried in
Oblivion released January 2005. They have been singed by several different
studios. For there first CD they caught Dutch Labels or DVS’s attention with
there early demo tapes. For there second full length CD they stayed with DVS
but also went with Century Media. And for there resent album Buried in
Oblivion they drop DVS and just went with Century Media. Into Eternity has
already gone so far and will go further.
Conclusion
There are
many talented bands in Saskatchewan. There is Short Story, Nailbomb Tragedy,
Far From Ruin, At Birth Given Scars, and etc. but possibly the to most
talented bands were are and are Despistado and Into Eternity. Now I hope
people have learned a little bit more about the un-recognized talent the
Saskatchewan has. |
