Biographical Information
Chanpong is a consultant epidemiologist working for public agencies and private corporations. She contributes to health planning and epidemiological research in Southeast Asia related to communicable diseases, with a special interest in family and community health. Current projects include technical assistance for planning, developing, and coordinating health resources; maternal-child health program evaluation, and malaria prevention strategic planning. Chanpong is responsible for contributing to research design, conducting analyses of epidemiological data, as well as protocol evaluation and manuscript preparation. Chanpong has experience with complex statistical analyses to evaluate health status and disease states using clinical / physiological markers. She has advanced training and experience in health survey design and program evaluation.
Chanpong has a doctoral degree in public health with areas of expertise including environmental health, health economics, health status and care delivery among vulnerable populations. She presented findings from a cost-effectiveness analysis of a health intervention among geriatric clients at the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) in April 1999. She was responsible for a recent scientific manuscript focusing on the epidemiology of HIV in Cambodia that was presented at the American Society for Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (ASTMH) in November 1999. She contributed to the epidemiological research related to virology and malaria as a Research Scientist at the US Naval Medical Research Unit-2 in Jakarta, Indonesia, for two years.
Chanpong also completed a Masters of Science degree in health care administration and a Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology. She initiated her career as a microbiologist and was associated for seven years with the Caribbean Epidemiology Centre (PAHO) in Trinidad, West Indies, Medical Research Council Leptospirosis and Rabies Control Projects. Chanpong has 17 years of work experience in preparing needs assessments and program evaluations using economic and social indicators. As a Research Analyst for a California Regional Data Center, she performed demographic and economic trend analyses. In cooperation with California State Department of Finance, she authored environmental and health related technical reports.
