A BLACK THING

The manager of the inner city restaurant looked up from the cash register to see two black men approaching. They looked over the bill they held.

"How was everything, gentlemen?"

"Good, real good." one of them said.

"Do you take credit cards?" the other asked.

"Nope, ‘fraid not. Cash only."

"Damn." said the one who had asked.

"Is this a black thing?" chimed the first one loudly.

The lone white employee cringed momentarily. He had had his share of racial problems since being transferred to this location. He looked at the two men without smiling and finally said,

"Yes it is. We take the white man's credit card."

"Oh good." said the man. "This is a white man's credit card."
