Douglas S. O'Keeffe was born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. He and his family then moved and made their home in a small town in Ontario, Canada. Doug has one sibling, a younger sister. After obtaining a Masters Degree at the University of Western Ontario with specialization in three disciplines; Sociology, Philosophy and the Art and Science of Coaching, Doug was accepted into the Ph.D. program at Berkley in California. Prior to beginning the doctoral program however, Doug accepted the invitation of fellow athletes he was training with in track and field in trying to win berths on the Canadian Bobsled Team. Successful at the tryouts, Doug was soon sliding down hills in spandex careening off ice walls at 85 mph., eventually participating in two World Cup competitions. After two years of international travel and competition, some injuries and a lot of great experiences, some not-so-fun modes of income ensued while the world of writing and filmaking called to the soul. Doug volunteered at a local cable station and with the support of some wonderful people, created some television comedy cult classics in which he cast himself and his friends. Such epics as "Bloodgolf", "The Golf Warrior", "Talking to Famous Dudes", and "The Iron Stomach Tunathalon" led the way to making a fun thing a paying profession. After moving from London to Toronto, Doug balanced a love for the visual arts working as a professional photographer with establising an acting career. Doug has to date created a number of music videos, a documentary titled "Five Questions", and the short films "Blind Date" and "The Edge." He was also the second unit director on the feature film "Legacy" starring Rod Steiger. Doug has completed close to 100 film and television productions as an actor and currently travels between Vancouver, Toronto, Los Angeles and New York. Doug attended "Close Quarters Standby 4", a La Femme Nikita fan convention in May of 2001 where he was awarded a "Gemstone Award" in the category of "Slime of the Week" for his work in the series as the character, "David Fanning." The event also included a celebrity auction where his donated items benefited his charity of choice, Greenpeace. Doug's athleticism carries over into his free time as he enjoys surfing, skiing, golf, and playing hockey. He also subscribes to Yoga, or "Douga" as he calls it, explaining that since he is somewhat inflexible, some positions have been modified. =) Other interests include photography, writing, painting, music, watching movies, and trying to beat the chess master on his computer. Faith is another facet of Doug's life. He has said he continually seeks the truth, and marvels at the world around him. Many aspects of his seeking are explored throughout much of his writting. Doug's heritage is of Irish descent and for fun you can check out this page to find some interesting facts and links...*Wee Bit of Irish*. And, he comes by his artistic side quite naturally as it appears to run in his family. The prominent artist, Georgia O'Keeffe, is a cousin of Doug's. Georgia is known for her paintings of flowers and Southwest motif. To find out more about Georgia's work, check this link to ARTCYCLOPEDIA. |
